Multi-day river expeditions are one of the most exciting ways to observe and be one with nature, while enjoying the company of friends along the way. One of the most challenging aspects of a river expedition, besides navigating through rapids, is minimizing your impact on the environment. On any given trip it is likely that you will be traveling with people who have years of experience in this arena, but be sure to do your own research so you can be a contributor — not just a bystander — to wildlife and land conservation while on your journey. This video addresses the Grand Canyon specifically, but all the principles and methods found within can be applied to most major river expeditions. As part of your research, look into the region through which you’ll be traveling to ensure you are abiding by all local laws and restrictions before you start digging holes and bathing in the river.

Remember, it’s up to all of us to keep nature the way it is meant to be if we want to keep enjoying it for years to come!
