capilano parkVancouver, British Columbia has long been revered as one of the world’s greenest cities, and that claim doesn’t just refer to their propensity toward Earth-friendly city planning and energy consumption. Vancouver is surrounded by hundreds of acres of pristine temperate rainforest, filled with towering Douglas Fir, red cedar, and western hemlock, some of which are thought to be thousands of years old. One of the most incredible and thrilling ways to see this old-growth forest is by paying a visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.

Originally constructed in 1889, the Capilano suspension bridge sways high in the treetops at a height of roughly 230 feet above the Capilano River, spanning 460 feet across. This is arguably the best vista you’ll be treated to in the entire park, but if the height seems a bit daunting, you can also check out their Treetop Adventure, which is a series of elevated suspension bridges, the highest of which only reaches 100 feet. And for those bravest of adventurers, the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park also offers their Cliffwalk, which is a narrow steel walkway that is suspended high from the canyon’s granite cliff face. Although it may not be suitable for every kid, the park is family-friendly and includes a totem pole park that offers a great cultural experience for kids and adults. Check out this sneak peek of a day spent getting high in BC’s Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.
