Camping and appreciating nature is one of the greatest experiences a parent can pass on to a child. Lessons that can’t be learned anywhere but in the outdoors are at every turn, but it doesn’t have to be akin to school. Make learning fun for your kids by using these easy camp meals to teach as a way of getting them involved in something they’ll never see as a learning activity. Here are three super easy recipes to get you started!

Kabobs are one of the more easy and relatively mess free easy camp meals to teach kids, perfect for fingers that are already perpetually grubby. Parents can chop up boneless, skinless chicken breasts and sirloin steaks and tag team the kabob assembly with the kids, spearing meat pieces in between kids spearing the chopped peppers and onions. A quick squeeze of lemon and a few turns on the grill make kabobs a quick meal lesson for kids and easy cleanup for grownups.

Stuffed Grilled Bananas

Stuffed grilled bananas are a great alternative to s’mores and easy for kids to customize. Leaving the skin on, slice the banana lengthwise without cutting all the way to the bottom or the bottom tip so it forms a boat. Then allow the kids to stuff with all the goodies they want. Easy melting toppings like chocolates, caramels, and marshmallows as well as sauces make this a super gooey, super fun treat. Wrap in tin foil and throw over the fire until everything’s hot and melted. Definitely one of the most delicious easy camp meals to teach the little ones.

Foil Packet Dinner

Foil packet dinners are perfect for picky crowds. Take enough ground beef, turkey, or vegetable substitute for one person and form it into a patty in the center of a square of foil. Add toppings that yield well to grilling like onions, chunks of seasoned potato, peppers, or cheese. Fold the foil up over the patty and grill until the meat is cooked thoroughly and the veggies are fork tender. Kids can pick their own veggies to go with their protein, as well as shake on a little salt and pepper before folding into a neat little package for an adult to toss on the fire.
