New Mexico harbors some of the nation’s most beautiful landscapes, changing dramatically from vast rose-colored deserts to heavily forested snow-covered mountain peaks. Despite its characterization as a dry, desert region, New Mexico offers dense greenery and plentiful rivers in a large majority of the state, particularly in the north. But heading further into the southwestern region, you will indeed find the cacti and caverns so often featured in New Mexico’s tales, not the least of which is Carlsbad Caverns. A network of more than 117 caves, this system holds the largest cave chamber found in all of North America. Here you will see some of the world’s most impressive mineral and rock formations, structures that began their journey many millions of years ago. Check out this incredible video of what awaits you at Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico.
