Butterflies are some of the most beautiful creatures in the world, and many exotic butterfly species come in a wide variety of dazzling colors. They can be found on nearly every corner of this planet. Despite their delicate appearance, they are actually very hardy insects. Check out this list of just five beautiful species from around the world.

1. Blue Morpho

This exotic butterfly species is one of the biggest in the world and can be found throughout Central and South America. Its wings are an iridescent blue edged with black and span up to eight inches across.

2. Blue-Banded Purplewing

The blue-banded purplewing, also known as the tropical blue wave or the royal blue, can be found in Central America and some of the northern countries in South America. Its wings have a royal blue coloring with white spots and stripes.

3. Cairns Birdwing

An exotic butterfly species with unique coloring, the Cairns birdwing is a magnificent example of Australian butterflies. It has a yellow body with a red and black head, differentiating it from many butterflies which have solidly colored bodies. The males have yellow and black wings with splashes of light green, while the females’ wings are plainer and lack the green coloring.

4. Tailed Jay

The tailed jay is a tropical butterfly found throughout Southeast Asia and Australia. Its wings are more angular and streamlined than the other species on this list. They are primarily black with spots and stripes that come in white, and pale green.

5. Ulysses Swallowtail

This butterfly features a bright, almost neon blue coloring in the area of its wings closest to its body, with the rest of it a dark black. Those contrasting colors make it truly striking. It can be found in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Australia.
