Among other things, Utah is renown for having the highest density of slot canyons in the entire world. These beautiful sandstone canyons have been created over millions of years by the forces of wind and water erosion, perfectly preserved by the arid climate of Utah. More than 1,000 slot canyons are available for exploration here, including the infamous Blue John Canyon.

Blue John Canyon is where mountaineer Aron Ralston met with unfortunate circumstances, having to amputate his own arm to save his life after becoming trapped in the canyon by a boulder. In this video, outdoor expert Steve Allen explains the dangers and techniques of exploring slot canyons, while featuring the magnificent beauty of the canyon.
