Hygiene: it’s one of the most amazing advancements in human civilization. And while it is generally accepted that you’ll get a little dirty if you should ever venture into the great outdoors, basic hygienic practices are still dictate that brushing teeth and washing hands are the call of the day. But if you can’t go a weekend without hitting a shower, there are some alternatives that can do the trick without much work or waste.
1. Wet Wipes

Washing up with baby wipes is one way to bathe in the outdoors that requires no effort other than bringing and using them, creating very little waste if you don’t need a new one too often. Many campers, backpackers, and festivalgoers swear by its efficiency, and we honestly can’t argue with that.
2. Sponge Bath

You’d be surprised how far a few cups of hot water, a little soap, and a sponge or wash cloth will go if you want to bathe in the outdoors. Whether you have a camp stove or a fire pit to work with, you can quickly and easily heat a small pot of water and add a few drops of biodegradable liquid soap for an adequate cleaning alternative to a shower in the outdoors. Dr. Bronner’s is a popular choice for people that spend a lot of time in the outdoors since it’s non-toxic and eco-friendly, but it has the added advantage of a nice fresh smell and even a cooling feeling with the peppermint soap!
3. No-Rinse Cleansers
A strange, but viable way to bathe in the outdoors without a shower is by using no-rinse cleansers. Found in liquid or powder form for hair, no-rinse cleansers are compact, effective, and require only a towel or washcloth to wipe off the cleanser after application, no water necessary. You can apply it with a wet wash cloth if preferred — and you can even use it in the shower — but these products require absolutely no water to be effective. If your options are limited, this isn’t a bad one.
