Baby Owls Are a Hoot

Caught on camera, this curious family of owls took a great interest in a camera left in their tree. Watch as they try to figure out who or what is in their home.

Take a close look at the owl’s eyes. Did you know they cannot move their eyes from side to side? Their eyes are fixed in the socket, and the bird must turn its head to follow moving objects. That doesn’t slow this nocturnal hunter down, though. Owls can rotate their heads 260 degrees, which is why you often see them sleeping with their heads “backwards.”
