Alaska is the US’s northernmost territory, meeting the edges of the Pacific, Arctic, and Bering Sea on its borders. As the 4th least densely populated region in the US, Alaska offers a pristine wilderness not easily matched anywhere else in the world. Indeed, some parts of Alaska are so remote that they remain perfectly preserved, untouched by the destructive hand of man. Alaska’s proximity to the north pole creates varying lengths of days, with many longer nights pervading the Arctic reaches. These extended night skies provide the perfect backdrop for Alaska’s stunning Northern Light show, provided by Aurora Borealis, an effect of energy particles from the sun colliding with Earth’s magnetic field. In some parts of Alaska, the Northern Lights can be observed nearly all year, and at times during the day! Check out this amazing timelapse footage of Alaska’s night lights.
