As a military resource, the lightweight nylon ropes used in parachutes during World War II have seen quite a few uses in every branch of the armed forces, but their release for civilian use has given new stylish life to this handy survival tool in the form of paracord accessories. Available in a wide variety of colors and patterns, the paracord used for bracelets and other accessories remains as strong and versatile as ever.

One of the most popular trends for paracord use is the survival bracelet. These make a rugged addition to a wardrobe, offering the appeal of a chunky bracelet and an appealing interwoven and knotted pattern. Paracord bracelets come in enough color options to make them as versatile as accessories as they are in emergency use. A standard bracelet usually contains between nine and ten feet of cord, and can be worked out of its pattern with a little effort to make the full length of cord available. Anklets, although somewhat less prevalent currently, offer slightly more cord on average.

The paracord belt is an option that appeals somewhat less as a fun statement of style and more as an expression of ruggedness and preparedness. Popular amongst wilderness enthusiasts from day-trip hikers to campers who carry minimal gear into remote wild places, the length of cord worked into a belt can be literally life-saving as well as simply convenient. Lanyards and necklaces are among other paracord accessories which contain such useful lengths. Dogs can also sport collars and leashes of braided paracord for stylish and secure equipment.

You don’t necessarily have to wear paracord to make it a functional and stylish accessory — shorter lengths can be put to use as keychains, water bottle straps, added grip on a knife, or even as the laces of your shoes. Because paracord is multi-layered, no piece should ever be considered small enough to go in the trash, as it can still provide numerous uses in the outdoors or survival situations. When it comes to paracord accessories, you can get very creative in ensuring you have this awesome survival tool anywhere you go!
