Guerrilla art can be defined as art that is not subjected to bureaucratic process for public appreciation. While it is not a new art form, it is becoming more popular as artists try to find ways to express themselves to a larger audience, or about a particular subject.
Public reactions to guerrilla art range from delight to rage, depending on the topic or depiction. Some refuse to see them as anything more than outbursts from angry teens, while others are able to look for deeper meaning and find connection with the artist. Bureaucratic reactions are much more predictable: monetary fines, incarceration, or general harassment.
There are many forms of guerrilla art. Some take the form of the immediate environment, while others stand in brash contrast to it — perhaps to draw the eye in a different direction. Guerrilla artists themselves can run the gamut from crocheting grannies to spray painting law students to bands of soccer moms who have something to say.
