Yellowstone National Park is home to many sites: waterfalls, wildlife, lakes and geysers. On the top of the list of places to see is the Midway Geyser Basin, which has great parking and easy access to a wooden boardwalk. The parking lot is busy unless you arrive super early or later in the afternoon. This is to avoid the tour buses. The effort put forth in parking will be worth it though, because housed within this basin is awe inspiring scenery.

Pools and Geysers

Along the boardwalk you will see the Excelsior Geyser, the Turquoise and Opal Pools, and the Imperial Geyser. The Grand Prismatic Spring also falls along this path. It is the largest hot spring in the United States and is the main attraction of the Midway Geyser Basin. Because of this, it is an area that is very busy with tourists.

Grand Prismatic Spring

The Grand Prismatic Spring is a psychedelic experience with an array of vibrant colors. The spring is best seen on a sunny day so all of the colors can really be observed. If it happens to be overcast, try to wait for the sun to shine through. If able, find a way to observe the Grand Prismatic Spring from above as the view is breathtaking.

Old Faithful

Close to seven miles away is the Upper Geyser Basin, in which you will find Old Faithful, the most well known geyser in America. If time permits, make a trip to watch her erupt, which occurs close to every 90 minutes. Elk are also common in this area.

There are many natural wonders to be seen. If time only permits seeing the sites near the Grand Prismatic Spring, then you will not be disappointed with the scenery surrounding it in the Midway Geyser Basin. Take a journal to document your time there and to hold photos and memories of the majestic terrain.
