If you’re the kind of outdoor person who loves to push yourself to the limit and go beyond what others perceive as outrageous, extreme camping is an activity that will challenge your skills and endurance in the outdoors, and can be had virtually anywhere on Earth. It is important to be confident in your outdoor and survival skills before heading out to any of these three extreme places to camp in the US listed below.
1. Death Valley

Death Valley sounds precisely like the kind of place you’d do well to stay away from when considering your next outdoor adventure, but for those who really want to test their limits and see some of the most beautiful desert vistas anywhere on the planet, it is definitely one of the most extreme places to camp in the US. This region is characterized by its consistent sweltering heat and arid winds punishing roughly 3,000 square miles of California desert. Survival skills will be paramount here, as the desert landscape offers little in the way of resources or relief from the blistering sun and heat.
2. Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park is a great place to test your skills for winter camping, and has a reputation as being one of the more extreme places to camp in the US. The park is virtually deserted in the winter season, but it can be brutally cold. That means extra care must be taken to avoid frostbite and hypothermia, both of which can be prevented easily with the proper preparation.
3. Rocky Mountains
Camping on a mountain cliff is hard to imagine, but the idea is becoming more popular. Colorado has a number of extreme places to camp, including the gorgeous Rocky Mountains. This extreme camping experience will allow you to sleep in a tent, eat your meals, and gaze at the amazing views all around you while suspended from ropes on a sheer cliff face. Experience with rock and mountain climbing will obviously be the key skill set needed here, but knowing how to wear a pack loaded with everything you need for your adventure will be of utmost importance as well.
