Questions & Answers

Kim A : Will this seat work with a Therm-a-Rest closed cell sleeping pad?DIANA K : Hi Kim, according to the manufacturer it will technically work, however it will not be very comfortable or supportive.
Shopper : Can this be used as a bleacher sport chair?DIANA K : Hi! This item is a chair kit, it is used to turn a mattress into a chair, a mattress must be bought separately. I don't see any recommendations anywhere that shows that it can be used as one. The issue I see with this is that bleacher chairs usually have shorter seats. Perhaps you can reach out to Therm-A-Rest and see what they would recommend.
Shopper : Does the backrest adjust?DIANA K : The backrest can be pulled a bit forward using the straps (as shown in the photo) , but ultimately it is all one piece and mostly fixed.

Therm-A-Rest Trekker Lounge Chair

Product was exactly as advertised. It is easy to set-up and easy to adjust. I highly recommend this chair kit. I will primarily be using this in my tent. The only thing I would change is the location of the clips on the adjustment straps. I have very little head-room in my small conical backpacking hot tent and will be sitting up from a prone position to connect the straps and clips to form the chair. For me it would be easier if the clips were at the thigh instead of the armpit area. But I am old with bad shoulders.

Proven to Be Well Worth It for Reclined Awake Time on Luxury Pad

Works well and for my money, definitely worth it for any amount of reclined (awake time) on the Luxury Pad. I purchased the larger 25 IN model to go with my Luxury Pad, the fit seems too loose, probably should've gone with the smaller 20 IN Chair.

Genuine Therma a Rest R (Cascade Designs Inc)

I have one from about 25 years ago. It was made it so that two singles could be joined together and that two people could sleep comfortably alongside each other. Is this an option available with the modern ThermaRest seat/mats?

Just right.

This is the best sort of backpacking chair for me and this one seems sturdy. I find it comfortable and I like the adjustability. I can sit upright or reclined at whatever angle I like and it can be adjusted to compensate for an uneven surface. Also, I can use it inside the tent, something I wouldn't do with other camp chairs.

not comorbid

Bought it for Therm-a-rest Xlite Regular Wide. Packaging and size are quite small. Until I unpacked and tried to sit. A little uncomfortable. After the light Kempinogvsky chair. Not at all. Do not lean back, do not relax. Conclusion: the purchase did not pay off. Dimensional in working position and not comfortable. another 400 grams and a camping chair. for the same money. So no thanks for the verdict!

A comfy, lightweight add-on

If you're already planning to take your air-mattress along anyways, for just a few ounces more, you can have the support and comfort of a backed-chair. if you value the comfort of being able to lean back and relax while in camp, this is a worthwhile addition to your pack as it adds functionality, with a relatively minimal weight penalty.

Good

Very nice, comfortable, convenient. It takes a few minutes to fit it right but it's good. I liked my 20" (trekker) one so much I bought the 25" for car camping. It's good for kids' playrooms, too!

Indispensable

I have used this chair kit for many years, I actually have the older version. It has seen nearly 100 nights/mornings of use. Slip your legs into your sleeping bag and recline in your chair. There is no better way to enjoy your dinner and breakfast on the trail.

Comfy! But, tore after single use.

These are amazing for some added luxury and comfort in the mountains. This model was my third chair. I lost the first and broke the second after a few seasons. This one tore after a single night backpacking trip. I'm not sure if something punctured the chair or if the product is a little too light weight for my build. (6'1" 220lbs). The chair construction has lightened up over the years. I still recommend the product. Just be gentle with them.

Justifiable luxury

A chair for just 10oz can’t be beat anywhere and for me, it’s a comfort worth having.

Design modification needed?

I have been using the Trekker chair daily for a few years. It was fine when new, but the stays that keep the back of the chair upright eventually poked through the lower end of where they're sewn in. I'm hoping a design modification to reinforce that spot will be considered. (The previous design of the Trekker chair lasted much longer with similar use. I wish it was still available!)

Very nice addition in your portage pack; the comfort is definitely appreciated at the end of the day.

Nice lightweight little chair. Looks just like the photo in the description. The chair quickly became a "must have" addition to our annual BWCAW canoe trip, a great addition if you're doing day trips out of a base camp. The only draw back is the chair requires you to slightly deflate your sleeping pad and use it for the cushion, and there is a slight learning curve to putting it all together. This could be a little bit if a hassle if you're relocating your camo every night. Overall I'll be bringing it along as a welcome addition to our canoe trips.

This is essential, now that i've tried it.

how nice at the end of a long hike to be able to sit and recline in luxury and read/write with great back support. Worth every ounce (very few) for a nice camp experience. Essential in my mind..

Solid, Functional Chair Kit

My first Trekker Chair Kit is close to twenty-years old; it is a tad faded, but just as usable as the day I got it. My new (second) chair kit looks and performs a lot like the old one, which is to say it is well-made and highly functional.

Very Comfortable But A Little Fiddly

Okay--it is a good product but not a great product. Here's the good: it's reasonably lightweight enough for backpacking (but not for ultralight fanatics). And, once it is setup, it IS comfortable and easily adjustable for your body weight and how upright or leaned-back you want to sit. Note that this does NOT have legs--you are basically sitting on a leg-less chair. Here's how it works and why it's also not so great. The product is completely unpadded. That's why it's so lightweight. The padding comes from using YOUR not-included self-inflating sleeping pad. You could also use a foam pad like a Ridgerest Classic. To set it up, you fold over 1/3 the length of the sleeping pad and insert this double-thick part in the bottom of the chair, and then insert the remaining single-thick 1/3 of the pad into the chair back. You CAN'T do this if the pad is fully inflated. You're best off letting it partially inflate, leaving the air valve open, inserting the pad into the chair, then closing the air valve. Then, you sit down and adjust the strap lengths until comfortable. So, some "assembly" required to setup. But here's the real issue: you need that pad to sleep on! So, now it's time to sleep, and you have to let the straps out, wrestle out the bottom 2/3 of the pad from the chair, get the pad fully inflated, and then you're good to sleep. But THEN, the next day, if you want to use the chair, you need to "reassemble" it, etc., repeat each day. One caveat: if you don't care about having any padding under your butt, you can use the chair without any padding at all in which case this is quite a fantastic product, right? :-) The construction seems quite solid and the chair is available for 20" and 25" inch self-inflating sleeping pads. My sleeping pad is standard length but it will work with any length pad.

Compact and Comfortable

I have my Therm-a-Rest - Trekker Chair Kit for a number of years now. It comes with me on all my camping trips but especially on my sea kayaking camping trips. The fact that it packs down so compact means it takes up little room in my sea kayak but still delivers great comfort with my Therm-a-Rest mattress, not to mention the fact that it's a well thought out design and hard wearing gear. Great for sitting down and enjoying the sea views in the evenings.

compact & lite.

I'm a bigger guy (240 lbs.) and the TREKKER chair works great. At a few ounces, and the fact it takes up little space, it's ideal for backpacking when you're a keeping weight down but want comfort around camp.

Love my chair, I use it with my Exped mat which is a little awkward but totally doable! It's so nice to be able to sit up and to have something to lean on. Use it in my tent and out!!

Fun For Car Camping

This is a little to heavy for me to backpack with, but it's great for car camping where you don't want to lug around a folding chair. It takes a while to get use to assembling, but once you do it's pretty quick to set up. The fabric seems to do a decent job of protecting you pad from punctures, but I would still be a little careful about where you use it. It's a little floppy unless you inflate you pad really well, but comfort is superb.
