Long-time owner of the original Therm-A-Rests pads. Have only used this ProLite a few times. 'Self-inflates' to only 1/2"; if you want to get it thicker then be prepare to blow it up and deal with an outdated valve that is not 'one-way' (no check valve). After a few hard breaths it will inflate to 1" which is all I want or need for most outings. Deflates easily and is reasonably compact. Would give it a 4.5 if not for the somewhat awkward valve. I appreciate that the valve design is 'tried & true' but it's past time for Therm-A-Rest to get working on a new design/generation for it's more 'classic' line of pads.

I got to use my ProLite Plus Sleeping Pad (regular size) for the very first time last weekend, and was pleasantly surprised at how easy and quick it was to inflate to 100%, how comfortable it was, and how it shielded me from the otherwise very cold floor. It's relatively lightweight, folds into its storage pouch nicely, and was very easy to tote around in my bicycle pannier. Outstanding product.

I have used this mattress for the past two years on high alpine self sufficient hiking trips, one to three weeks in a row, that kind of thing, with temperatures as low as a few degrees below freezing point. Pro: lightweight, comfortable, real upgrade from the Prolite. True 4 season model. So far, never had a leak, and never had one in the other Prolite versions I have used over the past 15 years. Con: collects a lat of condensation water, quite hard to dry at low temperatures. This was not the case with the albeit less warm and less comfortable 3 season versions of the Prolite.

This is the only fairly lightweight insulated sleeping pad I can sleep on comfortably. I'm a light sleeper and all the other lightweight pads I've tried are too noisy for me (similar to rolling over a bag of chips). This one is noise free! It also feels comfortable and durable - it hasn't failed on me yet after about 40-50 nights. Lastly, the self-inflation mechanism is helpful. When would I give it 5 stars? - When it's easier to put the mat back in the stuff sack. Options: bigger stuff sack (with compression straps perhaps)? easier way to deflate to the maximum? - When the pack size is a bit smaller; it's on the big side. If Therm-a-Rest would come with a new version with these improvements I would definitively upgrade!

Used for backpacking, bikepacking and camping in the Canadian Rockies and it's lightweight, packs small and is comfortable and warm to sleep on. The self-inflation is quick and effective.

My favourite mattress so far ! I use this mostly on canoe trips. It's extremely comfortable after a long day of paddling. When we set up camp I just open it up in the tent and let is self inflate then before bed pump it up a little more then shut the valve. Perfect for all seasons, I have also used it winter camping. It the night plans to drop below -10 celcius I will throw a zlite under for extra warmth. Highly recommend this sleeping pad. All round awesome product that isn't very bulky.

I purchased this for travel and backpacking. I am very familiar with Thermarest; as I own the Original closed-cell mattress and a Hiker model. I needed something that was compact, and this delivers. Very comfortable for it's size and weight, and quite reasonably priced.

I love my pro lite Xs I use it instead of the the neoair. It's way less breaths to blow up and equally as comfortable. I sleep on my side and it's perfect for a warm nights sleep

My husband and I have been using the regular and large Prolite Plus for over a year now. It has greatly improved the quality of sleep we get on backpacking trips. We previously used Ridgerests, which were better than nothing, but provided nowhere near the padding my hips and sacrum needed. After many years of excruciating nights, I finally got the Prolite Plus and wondered why I had waited so long. After he tried mine out, my husband had to get one. These pads provide terrific cushioning - no bottoming out for my hips or sacrum. I sleep on my side mostly, but also back and stomach - it works great for all three. Cushiony enough that I don't feel the ground at all, yet the support is firm. Easy to inflate with just a few breaths after letting it sit open for a while. Holds air all night. Warm. No crinkly noise like most ultralight mattresses. We use reasonable care in using the pads and have had no problems with leaking. The quality is top notch, price is very reasonable. Weight is a little higher than some mattresses, less than others, but totally worth it for a good night's sleep. My only complaint is that it takes some effort to get all the air out to roll it up in a compact package. It's great to buy a quality product from a company committed to manufacturing in the US. Thanks for an excellent product that helps me enjoy the back country again!

I use this as my regular bed, and I absolutely love it. It's firm, but plenty enough padding so that you don't feel like you're sleeping on the floor - or the ground - or anywhere else that's a flat surface. I love being able to take my bed with me no matter where I go, and I love how durable, and warm it is over any other air mattress.

I use the small for fast and light trips into the wilderness whether it's used in my hammock or on the ground. Love the size, weight, and warmth.

I work for NOLS and spend 30+ nights in the field at a time. I used to use a NeoAir but it didn't suit my back. I like that the Prolite is firmer and takes less effort to blow up. It also has some padding in case it gets damaged, I can repair it and still be comfortable. How long it lasts will be the deciding factor between a four and five star rating for me. A lot of my colleagues use it and that is a good sign for me. The NeoAir packed down smaller, but I think the Prolite will perform better for my needs,

We are very happy with our new mattresses, which are a fraction of the (packed) size and weight of our original Therm-a-Rests. We haven't had a chance to camp with them yet, but are very confident in our continued happiness. Mainly though: One of our two original Therm-a-Rests developed a slow leak on our last trip, which we couldn't find. I contacted customer service, expecting to be told to junk it. They said no, send it in, and that if the leak was in a seam my warranty would still be valid, if in the mattress I'd have to pay for the patch, and if it couldn't be fixed they'd give me a discount on a new one. Which they did, and a steep discount it was. Always buy your products from Therm-a-Rest or another Cascades Design affiliate.

The self inflation is an awesome feature, the pad stays fully inflated all night. The pad is firm and great for stomach sleepers like myself. I would highly recommend it, especially for the price.

I used this pad for 35 days straight this spring while working up in AK canoeing around the inside passage. It's super solid, easy to inflate, and has not shown any signs of weakness. Dries out quickly when damp and rolls up tight and small once deflated. Love using it and have been sleeping great!! Yahoo buck a roo!!!!

Used it this past weekend on a camping trip to Pinnacles National Park, and was pleasantly surprised by how comfortable it was- I didn't feel the ground at all! It sleeps warm, and was very cozy. The only thing I would add is that I sleep on my back usually, and the pad wasn't wide enough for my elbows to fit. They kept rolling off the sides which was a little irksome. For side sleepers this would be perfect.

Packs down small and the extra weight seems worth it over other options. Not much noise when moving on pad.

This thing must be 6 foot four and I am 6 foot three. At least 24 inches across at the shoulders. I self and plates, but my estimate is that it's 2 to 3 pounds, not necessarily "light weight" by today standards. I also have a total of four holes in the top of the mattress, the downside. I was able to repair them, but I don't know how long the repairs last. I can't see where thermo rest list the weight above.

I have had this pad for a few months, after replacing my old prolite. I have camped several times, with 3 trips sleeping on snow. This 'plus' version mattress is still pretty light and small, yet provides extra comfort and warmth; even at 3 degree F.

I sleep outside all. the. time. Pretty much every weekend, pretty much year round. I originally got my ProLite mattress pad for a NOLS course in 2012, and I still use the same one to this day. It's super small and packable, mine is one the 3/4 sized ones. My feet hang off the end, but weirdly, even though I get cold really easily, it doesn't bother me. I guess that might have more to with my sleeping bag. Anyways, love my lil mattress.

I bought this years ago and it started losing air over night. I sent it in to be fixed by Therm-a-rest and they sent my a brand new one 2016 model. Very happy with this gear and company

in fact you might panic that you've actually forgotten to pack your pro lite before heading out on your trip- it's actually tiny when rolled up. Still the mattress is comfy, spacious enough for a good night out under the stars and feels pretty comfy. Compared to other no name brands it's a little more pricey but the friendly and professional customer service and it's lifetime warranty makes therm-a-rest my number one choice.

Have used mine extensively for years! Motorbike touring, bike touring, hiked the pct with it, vol biv paragliding and even used to use it at home if i had a sore back. Inflates and deflates in seconds and packs very small, would never use anything else.

This sleeping pad has been with me for a couple years now, and got me from Georgia to New York on the Appalachian trail. I say it's my splurge because I'm pretty sure there are lighter options out there, but I was scared to skimp on my sleep! So this has definitely done the trick for many restful nights outside. And it doesn't make any crazy noises ;)

Great pad
By james58
I have used this pad for over a year in all 4 seasons for both boyscout camping and backpacking. Just used it for a weeks long hike in the White Mountains of NH. My pad and 45 degree bag fit in my sleeping bag compartment of my backpack. I have used this pad for over 40 nights and have had no issues with sleeping on my side. I have used it down to -2 in the winter and it worked fine, no cold spots. The pad will inflate on its own when it is warm. It does take time to inflate when it is below ...

A light weight compact performer
By mm24ever
I bought the Prolite Plus for my BWCA canoe trip to ensure my backside stayed warm while swinging in my hammock. My reasoning for the Prolite Plus was I needed it to be light weight, compact and have a good insulation value. I use a small bag that is rated to a low of 35 degrees so a good thermo layer is a necessity. On our last night it dipped down to 28 degrees and put a layer of frost on everything. The other 5 guys complained they got cold but I remained toasty warm. The funny part is was...

Get 4-season warmth and comfort with the convenience of self-inflation with the Therm-A-Rest ProLite Plus Mattress. Advanced Atmos Foam reduces weight by nearly 10 percent and enhances the compressibility of the mattress for easy stowing in your pack. The Atmos Foam is cut on the diagonal to deliver more warmth than conventional vertical channels, making the ProLite Plus Mattress the perfect companion for ski touring, cold weather expeditions, and winter camping. The expanding foam core self-inflates, and you need simply to top it off with a few breaths to customize the firmness.
