Super compact and lightweight

I purchased this compass to keep it in my emergency pack for my boat. It is super compact and weights almost nothing still providing the sighting capability. It is actually so compact that it could (should?) also sit in my outdoors shell jacket all the time - just in case.

Good for a newbie

Basic compass, no illumination, but is designed for daytime use. Enough features to get you where you need to go, but not enough to cofuse a new person starting out. My only annoyance is that it takes the needle a little longer to come to rest, but I can't complain considering this is not an orienteering compass. Lightweight, but not cheap. This compass is designed around a need to float and not being heavy is a pre-requisite to this.

To easily detach the compass from the lanyard, It comes with a fixed declination correction scale as well as a patent-pending lanyard snap-lock. The declination adjustment system, standard throughout the range, is especially useful when working in areas of large magnetic variation, while the sighting notch provides superior accuracy. The mirror lid locks open at various angles (60 degrees, 120 degrees, and 180 degrees) and remains securely shut when the lid is closed. The large mirror shows the entire compass capsule as well as the sighting line. A sighting notch provides optimal accuracy. This compass works anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere.
