Quite happy with it

I'm actually quite happy with this overall. The magnet and valve got immediately swapped out because I just prefer Camelbak valves and magnets compared to others so far, but this is actually turning out to be a rather tough little bladder. Granted, I keep it in the insulation kit I picked up at the same time unless I'm filling it at home, but the rigid back this has does make it easy to slide into sleeves. I noticed others stating the zip top feels like an issue, and I don't know if it's just my first zip top reservoir, but I like it. Haven't tried with the 3l, but I stress tested the 2.5l that came in my Mira by filling it to the max line and hanging it upside down over the sink all night. The 2.5l had zero leaks, so I'm confident in this one too. My only gripe would be the baffles inside it. Not sure if they come undone for cleaning and then close back up but they don't seem to, so there are these weird angled baffles in there. Would be nice to be able to get in there with a towel and dry it off, or turn it inside out for cleaning and drying.

Excellent warrantee service

I did not want to buy an Osprey reservoir because I had been so satisfied with another major brand of reservoir that I had used for 15 years. In 2018 my old reservoir started leaking and had to be replaced. I bought and returned three reservoirs that had major leaks as soon as I filled them up. I then decided to switch to Osprey and I am glad that I did. The design is excellent. I especially like the quick disconnects that make it easy to attach directly to a filter. The closure at the top is easy to open, easy to fill, and does not leak when closed.

Excellent for day hikes in hot weather

I have had this hydration bladder/pack for several seasons -- it replaced an older Osprey model that needed a new mouthpiece that was no longer available. I have used it for numerous day hikes and one two-night backpacking trip, and I love it. The bladder holds enough water for hot humid conditions or long outings, is easy to fill at my kitchen sink, and the water doesn't taste bad at the end of the day. The stiff back is an asset and it fits well in my 24L day pack (by another manufacturer).

Best bladder I've used.

I've used this bladder on hiking and backpacking trips. The high volume has been great hiking in Southern utah in 100 degree heat with wind. I've used it for short and long trails. It keeps it's shape and the back panel keeps it from sloshing around and bulging the pack to help it be more comfortable to carry so much water. It has a high flow rate which is very nice. The first time or two it had that new bladder taste, but after I cleaned it and used it more it has gone away, so I'm not sure why the other reviews are saying it's bad. The magnet clip for the sternum strap is also amazing. I'll definitely buy again in the future.

Love, love this water bladder!

I use it as my water carrier in an Osprey Hikelite 26 day backpack. Love the combination of these 2 Osprey products. Often hike 4-8+ miles at high elevation in NV and CA. They fully meet my needs. Often recommend both to others. Came back to this site to purchase larger Osprey hydraulics bladder for my overnight backpack for multiple night trips.

Best reservoir I've ever used

So far so good. I've used on two day hikes so far (8mi and 12mi). I haven't used a bladder system in many years but needed one for my upcoming Yosemite half dome trip In sept 2020. I've read the many reviews saying it wasn't durable and didn't last long but haven't had an issue yet. I'm a big fan of the easy disconnect for refilling with my sawyer squeeze. Also, the magnetic clip is clutch. It's easier to drink more water than ever before.

One major issue

I use this pack every day, and chose the Osprey branded one over the regular Hydrapack because of the rigid backplate. My work hours range between 8 and 16 hours a day, and this pack can accommodate for around 12 hours of hydration in the heat. My main complaint is that they placed the quick connect after a section of tube, making that section if tube a real pain to clean(even with bottlebright). It's really an awful oversight just for conveniences sake. Definitely order a second quick connector from Hydrapak and a longer hose to prevent mold.

Used for a few years without problem

I am surprised at the number of people who have had problems with this reservoir. I have a couple of them that I have put to periodic rigorous use for a few years and have always been very happy with how they performed. I have had no leaks and have come to view the convenience of the magnetic hose holder as a true trail friend. I cleaned mine thoroughly when I got them and and have not had an issue with any lingering taste or smell. My wife is much more sensitive to that kind of thing than I am, and she has used them without issue. They can be hard to get it back into an already stuffed backpack after refilling, but let's blame that on the three liters of water and the laws of physics, not on the container. In fact, the stiffening panel makes this one easier to get back in than others that I have used. Also, as a tip, you can get a tube connector to hook a Sawyer squeeze filter directly to the reservoir while it is still in place in the pack and fill it that way to save some time and effort. The only problem I have had was entirely my fault. I failed to rinse out the bite valve after a climb where we used a powdered carbohydrate drink mix with to supplement calorie intake. The result was not pretty. The good news is, the bite valve is easy to take apart and clean even after a few months as a mini growth environment. Now I wash it thoroughly whenever I use electrolytes or anything added to the water.

Best Reservoir I've Owned!

I have used this reservoir countless times and absolutely love it. I have modified it though. I took off the mouthpiece and added a small amount of silicone tubing. I can then add adapters so I can leave it in my pack and let my Platypus Gravity Flows fill it.

Works great

I'm used to Camelbak bladders and was worried about the lack of a closing cover and bladder access for cleaning. It turns out I prefer the filling of this bladder. What I don't like is the inability to clean within the bladder itself which you can on a Camelbak. The bite valve takes some effort but it flows and does not leak. The only problem with this bladder is that it leaves little room in my 24 liter pack for much else. I was very thankful on a 14'er climb to have the 3 liter's in this bladder.

Works well for my needs.

I take it camping, hiking/backpacking, disc golfing and mountain biking. I it gets anywhere from 50-100 uses per year out of me, and it's done quite well thus far. No discoloration, and had maintained all needed functions in the year since purchase.

Team Water Reservoir All The Way

Team Water Reservoir all the way! I will never understand why people choose bottles over bladders...and this new design has some awesome features. The back panel does help it slide in easily. It's faster and easier to fill than the older round opening. I've never had problems with leaking at the opening or quick release. I have a feeling that anyone reporting that is having leakage due to user error. Drinking from it is convenient- never have to stop to take a sip of water. I do slightly worry about the quick release breaking if it was to be stepped on or severely crushed and hit at the wrong angle, but I take care of my bags, so that concern is more so a pondering of how much force it would take to break it. The quick release feature is SUPER convenient. I don't have to struggle with the tube getting it in and out of the strap when I need to refill it. It definitely serves its purpose. Taste has never been an issue. Wash out the bag and tube and you'll be fine. My one frustration is the valve and on/off mechanism. I can not figure it out. I fight with it all the time. I have even broken one. I miss the old design. The old design had a more user friendly on/off mechanism and angle. It also had a fixed magnet that I like more than the new magnet that moves up and down and all around. The 3L has served me extremely well several times in the desert in August up to 14 miles (with play time). If I go anything more than that then I take an extra container. Backpacking in wooded areas I can go a full 24+hrs without needing to refill it. I have switched out all the 2.5L reservoirs that came with my bags for the 3L and it fits in those compartments just fine. Clean up is easy, especially if you get the brushes. This reservoir is one of the most important parts of my set up. Of course I recommend it.

Used for 2 years, only very minor issues.

I'm honestly not sure why this product is catching as much guff as it is. I've noticed a lot of complaints stating that the bag punctured easily, burst under pressure, or it had a strong plastic taste. My personal experience with this bladder overall has been excellent. I've used it several times for multi-day/night backpacking trips and the only issue I've had with it is the plastic clip at the top that is used to suspend the bladder in your pack broke off about 18 months in of use. And I plan to submit a claim on their guarantee to get a replacement part so honestly not a huge deal for me. I do recall a slight plastic taste when i first used the pouch, but it didn't last very long at all. Also to address the complaints about durability I will note that I've been paranoid about punctures or overloading my pack and having to squeeze the bladder too much from the beginning of use and in turn I've been careful with the item. I mainly have been doing this because, you know, it's a bag of water and not a rigid plastic bottle/canteen. Seems like common sense to me that you would need to be more careful with any bladder you use? Lastly a note on the ability to dismantle the pouch. I found this VERY handy as i used the bag on a longer timeline and needed to start cleaning it regularly. It was very easy to pull all the different bits apart and scrub them with a pipe cleaner, etc.

A lot of negative reviews about Plastic Taste....BUT...

A lot of negative reviews here about a Plastic Taste however did any of you read the Owner's Manual....didn't think so.....it says in there and I quote, "Some users may initially notice a plastic-like taste when using any of our products made with TPU. This taste typically subsides over time and can be eliminated bysimply squeezing juice from a lemon into the product, filling it with water, then freezing it. After frozen, remove, thaw and rinse." You're doing a disservice to people thinking of purchasing this reservoir! FYI

Good Product and Even Better Customer Service/Warranty

I have had my 3L reservoir for over a year and have used it for my daily commute via bike and backpacking trips. It is a stable pack and has a easy to use hose and mouth piece. It functions well and gets the job done. I will say however, that when you are filling the pack with all 3 liters, it can get cumbersome to hold weight wise as well as hard to keep the mouth open to allow water in (it's almost like you need 3 hands to fill it. One to hold it up, one to hold it open, and one to turn on/off the water). Additionally, my pack was damaged when I was packing my backpacking bag and I needed to replace it. Luckily, the Osprey ALL MIGHTY GUARANTEE cover the damage and I was easily able to report the defect (via computer with pictures) and received a new pack (minus the hose and mouthpiece) within 2 days. The customer service was very fast to respond and even gave me a tracking number to track my new pack.

Great design. Easy to use.

I filled this up with ice cubes, cool water and a dash of lemon juice. It works great! I'm surprised at some of the negative reviews. If you compress the bladder hard it's going to give; just like your own bladder ??. New plastic off gasses; maybe we shouldn't be using platics at all - but thats another debate.

My favorite reservoir by far

I 'm surprised by the number of negative reviews this thing has. It's by far my favorite hydration reservoir I've ever owned and I've owned a ton of them. The new closure is so much better than the large twist shut mechanism on the older osprey & camelback reservoirs. It's so much easier to make sure it's closed properly and won't leak, but the opening is still nice and big for easy filling and adding ice. At first I was a little annoyed that the top doesn't have a hanging hook, only a loop, but it was pretty easy to modify my hiking backpack to hold it. The loop is probably way less prone to breaking than the hook. I love how easy it is to clean, and I've been using it heavily for several months now and there have been no issues with build quality or durability. All the hose connections remain tight for me, even though I take it apart fairly often to clean and move between cycling and hiking packs. I love the feel of the bite valve compared to a lot of the competition out there, and the water flow rate I think is absolutely perfect. It did have a plastic-y taste when it was brand new, which isn't unique to this bladder. I put about a 1/4 of white vinegar in it, filled it up with water, sucked it into the tube, and then let it sit for about 30 minutes before emptying. Took care of it. My only gripe at all, is the one that came included with my Raptor 14 didn't include the quick connect so I had to buy that separately. Boo. That felt a little like a bait & switch, but maybe the raptor i bought was old stock.

Cannot compress!!!

I purchased this bladder for a 3-day hike of Mt. Whitney. Little did I know, the bladder cannot be compressed while in your pack without leaking over the top. On first use, I filled it up to max capacity, inserted it into my 65L Osprey pack, proceeded to secure my pack my cinching down all straps and, the bladder started leaking immediately. What is the point of a bladder if it cannot be squeezed without leaking? I was reduced to filling it up only half the rest of my hike. Do not use this product if you will be packing a lot of gear along with it, if so fill it only halfway.

Best bladder out there..

This is the best bladder I've ever used. Better than previous Osprey models and bladders from other major companies. I have had the original design of this bladder with the clip instead of the hole for at least two years and haven't broken it. How do all these people brake it? It's a plastic clip. Take care of it and it will take care of you. I ride very hard on both mountain and road bikes 4-6 days a week and this bladder has seen a LOT of use. Mine doesn't taste like plastic. It tastes like bottled water, which yeah has a bit of a weird taste to it, but just deal with it you bunch of ninnies. Or throw some lemon slices in when you fill it up. You're probably using this for biking or hiking or something that isn't a suit and tie dining experience, so stop giving negative reviews because you don't like how the water tastes. And if you just can't handle your water not tasting like it came from a tap in the Andes, then call Osprey and they will gladly do whatever they can to placate your whimpering. This bladder doesn't leak at all unlike bladders with screw-on lids, holds a lot of water, dispenses it quickly and deftly, is easy to completely disassemble for cleaning, and comes with the almighty Osprey guarantee. If you want to drink water to stay alive without carrying a bottle on the trail, then this bladder is five stars all day. If you want to sip Perrier in the cool shade while wearing linen pants and flip flops, then maybe consider another water delivery method.
