Questions & Answers

Shopper : what is the length of the gaiter?WILLIAM F : One other thing-make sure you wear them with the buckle to the outside or you'll snag them and trip yourself - I know should be obvious but one never knows who one is talking to.WILLIAM F : About 9-1/2". These are great gaiters and well made. I use them for summer and have the same in knee length for winter. I was worried about the instep strap wearing out but I have used them for 4 summers for cross country hiking in the granite of the Sierra Nevada and the instep straps show almost no wear. The velcro is easy to close and I've never had it open unintentionally. You'll love them.REX J : I just measured mine; it is 9.5 inches. As the name implies, it is a low gaiter. I use them for keeping detritus out of my boot when bush whacking and they work great. They are well made and handle a lot of abuse.CHARLES P : Since they lay over the shoe and gather somewhat I would saw the small/medium size extend 7" high.
JAMES G : Can I use these for light cross country skiing?GIL R : Yes. They are perfect for winter sports (snowshoeing, xc skiing)JONATHAN B : I would say yes. I used mine for an extended backpacking trip. I took them through about 300 miles of hiking through the mountains including some snow, and the person I was hiking with had the same gaitors. They work great for keeping dirt/dust/snow out of your shoes/boots. The only issue that we ran into is that over time on rough terrain the strap that runs under the foot to maintain a tight seal on the shoe will wear out/break. Doubt that would happen as quckly for use on cross country skis. Also check to make sure that strap would not conflict with the bindings.HAROLD L : Yes, they were fine. That is how I use them. Hal l.KATHERINE N : Yes! That's what we use them for. Our whole family has them. We always have rainpants on as well, so the low height of the gaiter is not a problem. Their main function for us is to keep the snow out of our ankles. On groomed trails with low snow depths you could use these without the rain pants. We still tend to fall a bit, so we need the pants on. :) The front closure and the buckle strap are SO NICE! Enjoy! and Happy Skiing!AARON C : Absolutely! They should work great for that.WILLIAM F : If you are going to use OR gaiters in the snow I would recommend their knee high gaiters. The shorter ones are better for non snow use. The higher gaiters will protect you better in deep snow. I have both. I use the shorter ones for summer hiking for scree/dust protection and the taller ones for snowshoeing in winter. Other than height both sizes are the same and are really well made and easy to get on and off. The instep straps are also nice and rugged on both ice and granite. I haven't worn through them yet.REX J : I purchased these low gaiters specifically to keep detritus out of my boots when bush whacking during the summer months and they work very well for that purpose. I also do winter mountaining skiing using 3 pin bindings. I use full gaitors (high) for that because I am in snow up to my knees and deeper. If I knew that the snow would not be deep, these low gaitors would work just fine. They are very well made. Another way they could work well even in deep snow would be to have rain pants or a ski jump suit over the top of them.MICHAEL R : Definitely. I have some that are much higher, but these are my "go to" gaiters for most outings.REGINA B : You could. They don't go up very high up the leg though.JEFF F : Yes, we have used ours for both x/c skiing and long distance backpacking trips. They work fine for both.CHRISTIAN J : I don't cross country ski so I don't know how far up the leg the snow gets from doing that. In winter I use them for snow shoeing and they work fine. After you move around in them they shimmy down a little and seal an inch or two above a hiking boot.
Shopper : What size gaiters would be ordered for a size 8 1/2 mens shoe and 16in calf?SunnySports S : Thats a tricky question because the sizes are S/M (5-9) L/XL (8-12). I would say get the S/M, and worse comes to worse if you dont like the fit we have the PFF Guarantee on this item so you can ship it back to us and we ship you out a different size all on our dime. Stay safe and have fun out there! Neal

These really do the job!

It would be nice if they had a zipper and then cover it with velcro.

Kept my feet dry

After receiving these gaiter I went on a 4.5 mile overnight hike in the snow with low top Gore Tex trail shoes. I thought this would be a good test for both items. I was pleasantly surprised that my feet stayed warm and dry. The bottoms of the gaiters stayed in place in the back and front and did not let any snow up between the gaiter and shoes. The top did likewise but did ride down a little bit. It did keep my pant legs inside the gaiter. It has a wide velco closure that stays in place. They might not be waterproof but I did not notice any water getting inside the gaiter. I was impressed.

Must-have for day-hikes and trail-work.

This is my second pair. The first pair lasted for many years before the Velcro failed. These are excellent for keeping bugs and crud out of your boots on day hikes. They also help keep your feet dry during very quick fords (when coupled with waterproof boots). I wouldn't be without a pair!
