I bought the hood to take on a two week trip backpacking through England, France and Italy. Now I know why women get to excited for dresses with pockets!! The hood has an elastic draw string that fits perfect around your hat!! It's the best, your hat stays on and the weather stays out!!! Size is perfect and it was great for a damp cool day in London!

I loved my first one to death, ski touring, beach days, cycling and everything in between. I only had two complaints, the zipper eventually failed (probably because I zipped it around my baby too many times) and the waist draw string got caught on things. So I was pretty excited when I bought a new one and it arrived with a burlier zipper and a draw string that keeps the loose end of of the way.

I wore this jacket everyday for about 3 weeks while traveling through Switzerland and Italy. It's super light weight which means it isn't going to keep you warm below about 45 degrees, but it's super flexible which means it's awesome as a layer. Throw on a t-shirt and fleece under this and you're layered for everything the day has in store. The fabric allows the rain to roll right off while maintaining breathability. I only tossed my raincoat on top when it was a non-stop downpour and I needed to stay outdoors. Otherwise, this hoodie will shed water really well as a light outer shell. The chest pocket is handy for tickets or credit cards. The side pockets offer plenty of space for lightweight gloves. The ONLY complaint is the hoodie drawstring. It works well to keep the hoodie in place, but I found it a tad lacking when it came to closing the open area where your face is exposed. Then is only minor if you're wearing a hat of any sort. I wore a heavy photography backpack almost everyday and the jacket showed no signs of wear even with constant rubbing.

Best feature is the Breathability of this water resistant layer. It doesn't feel like a plastic bag covering you but it has keep me dry in light rain conditions.

The Ferrosi is an almost perfect jacket. Lightweight, stretchy, perfect fit, and sheds water and wind well. What's more to ask?

The material is much thinner than what I was expecting from a soft shell - this turned out to be a plus though. Blocks most wind but isn't clammy at all. Does catch on branches when because of the stretch, but it's very durable and hasn't gotten a scratch. The jacket is quite loose in the stomach on me since I'm tall and thin - but you want this in a windbreaker for proper air circulation. The bottom can be cinched down with an elastic draw cord when it gets cold. The sleeves are a little too short for me at 6'3 with a large.

I've been researching the perfect "wind blocker" shell all winter and settled on the Ferrosi over the more expensive and tacti-cool First Spear style. I'm typically a medium in outwear in anything aside from Patagonia but I sized up on this one given recent reviews noting a slimmer fit. I'm glad I did. At 5'11" and 175 lbs the large fit perfectly, with room to layer in a fleece or even my lightest down puffer when not moving. This is the perfect addition to an outerwear collection if you already have your hardshell and insulating layers covered. I've been wearing it in the early mornings when I check trail cameras for turkeys, usually in the low 50s, and it's perfect for keeping the chill off with a long-sleeve under. The breathability is impressive. My only gripe is I wish they'd kept the thumb loops but I'm not having an problems personally with the cuffs yet. Great product!

I used this jacket for an 11 day trip climbing Denali. It was the perfect layer to keep you warm while moving on the glaciers and fight off the chill. Even wore it on the summit day as an outer layer. The only thing I noticed is the jacket material started to pile up where my pack was sitting. Over all a great jacket with the right amount of stretch. I am 5'6 150lbs and the small is a perfect fit. I have a 6' wing span and the sleeve length is perfect. I have another Ferosi in a medium and it drowns me.

Great Fit for me. Ranger Green Color is nice too. I like the solid color. UPF 50 is a plus for sun protection!

I use this jacket nearly everyday, fits me very well. The material is much more durable than I had expected. This is my second Ferrosi jacket.

On top of everything, also very packable. When it started raining I put on the hood and it was as if there was no rain.

I've use the same ferrosi hoodie for the last five years and decided the recent sale was a good time to order a new one. When this new hoodie arrived, my first reaction was disappointment. The overall feel of this seems like a decline in quality. Gone are the elastic cuffs with finger holes and the hood adjustment in the front. The material doesn't feel as rugged either. Sadly, I returned this and will continue with my worn out hoodie.

The fit is perfect, the black color is perfect, and layers on top of my fleece. I'm 174lbs and 5 feet 7. Works great and a great value.

Awesome jacket that can be used in almost any condition. Super lightweight so I can always pack it no matter where I go. Fits great and true to size. Build quality is good, looks nice as well.

This jacket comes highly acclaimed by many online gear review sites and gets tons of great customer reviews. I was still skeptical but was looking for a great late Spring / early Fall piece. Great fit and style. No bo (I wear this everyday), good style and perfect features. Good pocket placement too. Time will tell how durable it is but so far so good!

I read so much about this lineup and had to try the jacket. Very lightweight and stretchy, but what I was pleasantly surprised by was its ability to block wind. This is already a favorite of mine.

Living in the PNW, Outdoor Research is my go to for jackets. The ferrosi is a great build, nice and lightweight and does well in the cold. It does alright in the wind and light rain with decent thermal protection.

For a product that is called a "hoodie" and the product description says it's a 2 out of 4 on "warmth" it literally does nothing to keep you warm other than block some wind and keep you dry. The only reason I didn't send it back was because it is otherwise *perfect* for my needs! It does an amazing job keeping me dry, I went for a 20 minute walk in a decent drizzle and not a drop was even on the hoodie when I got home. The hood actually fits me fairly well (most of the hoodies I have tried in XL are designed for Big Bird I guess, I put the hood up and the front flops down so far it touches my chin!), it's sized pretty well, the pockets are EXACTLY what I was looking for, the stretch is nice, it looks good, it has a nice, snug fit but not too snug around the waist... it truly is perfect in every way other than have zero insulation at all. The one change I would make, is that there is a drawcord in the waist to cinch it up, and the loop is on the right side. This should be moved to the left side, so that it does not interfere with right-handed people accessing EDC kit on their waist or in their pockets. I was looking for something that would actually keep me warm, be snugly, be my "one piece of outerwear" unless I needed a real jacket. Something I could wear from 25 or so through 50, like I do with a true cotton hoodie, just with better pockets and water resistance. Unfortunately, this is just not that piece of gear, unless I wear a sweatshirt underneath it. If OR makes something exactly like this, but with insulation (I think the Vigor fleece may be it), I'll gladly buy it. I'm keeping this, because honestly it does a great job for what it does, and I can throw it in the car without taking much room as a "just in case". But not having the insulation means I am back on the hunt for that nice, comfy thing to throw over anything casual and do everthing from go for a walk to lounge around the house on a chilly day. J.Ja

It is a great shell for thr PNW. Works well most of the year with layering. Handles light precipitation well. I accidentally left my first one at a restaurant so I ordered another to replace it and now have 2.

Durable, stretchy and comfortable after broken in. The weather changes often and dramatically here on Cheat Mountain in West Virginia and this is great for keeping more warmth than just a shirt/base but breathing more than a hard shell.

Does a great job at blocking the wind, and I haven't had any issues with rain getting through yet (long term drizzle or a few minutes in heavy rain). I was worried it'd be super loud and crinkly like the last windbreaker I owned back in the 90's, but they've come a long way since then. It's so light that I hardly notice I'm wearing it, and it's roomy enough it doesn't restrict movement at all. I'm 5'8 and 190 and went with a large; there's room for layers underneath but it's not too baggy without them. With moderate activity and the mega mix fleece, it's been good down to freezing temperatures. It's pretty much replaced most of my other jackets unless the weather is terrible.

Liked the breathability and even tho not a shell still waterproof enough. Ran with only one thermal layers in -12c and was great.

Very stretchy, breathable and light, which makes it highly comfortable. Keeps you away from wind and from light rain, as advertised. Can be packed down quite a lot, which makes it a perfect option for travel.

Love this jacket. It solves the "do I or do I not need a jacket today?" question perfectly. Stays cool during long runs/hikes and keeps the wind and sun off you. Couldn't be happier

Long term Ferrosi user. This is my go-to for SE Appalachian winters, anything below 50 degrees or so, backpacking and kayaking. It's a magic shirt. The current jacket has sleeves that can be pulled up, and I like the pull cord for the hem. But the shoulders now have a seam, and it's about an inch and a half too short on both shoulders (the wingspan is too short). The jacket pulls tight, which on its own isn't so bad but any insulation underneath gets crushed. Bc it's stretched it allows more rain in too. If you're listening OR bring back the old, seamless shoulders.

I'm 5'11, 160lbs and got the size large. It's a little roomier than expected but still a great athletic fit. Fabric is tough, wind resistant, and water repellent while also being breathable. I've used this as a pack jacket for biking, climbing, or hiking. It's been perfect for being compact and having a wide range of use.

Absolutely essential layer
By Harper
I have to be quite impressed to write a review on a product, and here we are. Flat out, this is an absolutely must pack layer, and something I find myself wearing just about daily with working outside. This is an uninsulated soft shell that breathes well while blocking the wind and keeping out a moderate amount of moisture. It's important that it breathes well so you don't overheat in the cold, and you can still wear it as a light rain jacket in the summer. I just spent 3 days in a shoot ho...
