Solid

I'm super impressed by the wind protection and how lightweight it is. The front zipper can be tough sometimes.

Lightweight, waterproof, well vented

I'm 5'10" 195lbs, standard proportions. I ordered the size Large. The waist and snow skirt fit snuggly but not too tight, however the sleeves are a little too long, the cuff Velcro is set up a little strangely, and the pass pocket likes to twist so that it's on the inside of the forearm. Otherwise it's a nice lightweight jacket perfectly at home on the skin track. Only feature that could make it better would be chest pockets large enough for climbing skins.

Great Feature Packed Ski Shell

I was impressed with the features and all the pockets on this jacket, especially when compared with higher cost options. The pass pocket on the left arm is a must have for me, and this didn't disappoint. The powder skirt is a great feature to have for those of us who don't wear bib-type pants. Recommend trying it on, as the fit is a bit longer for that ski/ride style. I'm normally a medium but got a large as I have a stockier frame and the medium was a bit tight on my shoulders/lats. No issue yet with the Pertex, and I've been impressed with how well it packs and how breathable it is compared to my Gore-Tex garments. Orange is my favorite color so I love how much orange kit OR is putting out, and the two tone breaks it up for my different toned pants. Overall have been really happy with my jacket!!

Purchased this jacket to replace a previous OR Jacket

Jacket has a great fit. I'm 5'11" and about 185lbs without Greasy Nachos. The jacket was purchased for backcountry and resort work, and so far I've been in the resort. One note is that it feels lightweight and so if you're looking for a thicker, bomber style finish to a jacket this is not the droid you found once-not a knock, just an observation. Go OR gear!

Solid jacket, now my second carbide in two seasons

Very happy with the Carbide jacket. Bought one last year and then picked up this version for the current season because I was so happy with it. The color is a shade darker IRL than is pictured on the site, a bit more on the green side than mint. Otherwise, love all the features of the jacket while staying light. Pass pocket is very clutch, hood works well without looking goofy and the plentiful pocket arrangement makes for a great jacket both inbounds and in the backcountry. Does tend to run slightly larger than other European brands like Mammut, but has a nice freeride style.

A very nice all around ski jacket

This jacket is pretty sweet so far. I've skied 4 days with it so far. 2 days with it on in the resort and a few in the BC with it in the backcountry and mostly in my backpack. It's a nice feeling material the Pertex shell is nice, soft, and comfortable. I don't think it has the best DWR but the jacket stayed very dry in a light rain in British Columbia on a wet ski weekend. I thought it was going to start to wet out but it did not even if it wasn't shedding water as well as I've seen other jackets. The sleeves are long which I personally love. The hood fits like a nice three-way hood should. It's not quite a super lightweight backcountry shell with its additional arm zippers and powder skirt but it seems perfect for all-around usage in the resort and the backcountry when things are wet. As with many outdoor brand clothing, I had to size up cause the XL was super tight around my hips. The XXL is quite baggy on my chest/stomach area but this is just a classic problem with my body. I think it fits nicely for a ski jacket. With just a bit more room on the hips for the XL cause that certainly fit the rest of me a lot better. It's been a great addition to the jackets so far.

Ok Shell Good Price but not Waterproof.

Good fit lots of adjustments but not waterproof. Skied 3 hours in the rain and the jacket got soaked through. 3 layer Gore-tex is definitely better in very rainy wet conditions. Pass sleeve pocket should face outside on the arm versus inside. Then it would be easier to position the pass for the on hill pass reader turnstyle/gate.

My wife loves it

I'm colourblind, and was unsure if this coat colour pattern was nice. Well, my wife loves it, so that's all that counts. It seems well built. Only thing that really surprised me was that it is sooooo thin. You can see the light shine through it if you hold it up. For the price I would have expected a bit more, I'm guessing it will breathe better. This being said, I'll make sure to have many layers under when skiing.

Great winter shell

This has been a great winter shell. I've been pairing it was light to medium weight puffer and fleece jackets and it's been holding up well in 20's and 30's. It cuts the wind so my base layer can do what it is meant to do. I've also used this by itself for rain and it's repelled water very well. The hood is great for helmets, but still can work without one if you cinch it well enough. I even wore this in low 20's (wind chill in the teens) sledding with the kids and it paired with base layers kept me warm and dry. Lots of great stash pockets too. I'm very happy with my purchase!

Love this coat

This coat will forever sit at the top of my list of great coats. First reason it does exactly what it claims to do. It is a wonderful shell and if you know how to layer it is perfect. On a note, that may or may not be the doing of this coat, I survived a motorcycle crash with only minor scrapes at 55 mph while wearing this coat. The coat is shredded but I'm fine. It will always have a soft spot in my heart. Thank you outdoor research

Good Looking Jacket but could use improvements

This jacket, with its sleek design, is a definite eye-catcher. I appreciate the fact that it fits snugly over my helmet, and its flexible material allows for excellent stretch. However, there were a couple of areas where it fell short. The primary issue I faced was with the main zipper, which was considerably difficult to maneuver, especially during the snowboarding season. Zipping up the jacket became a challenging task, regardless of whether I wore gloves or not. Hence, a crucial improvement would be to enhance the usability of the main zipper, possibly by making it larger and more glove-friendly. Secondly, the sleeve cuffs, where you can strap and seal your wrist to your gloves, lack elasticity. Incorporating a stretchable material at the cuff would greatly improve the jacket's functionality, as it would enable the skier to tuck their gloves in more comfortably. As it stands, the stiffness of the cuffs and the inadequate diameter made it an arduous task to secure my gloves within the sleeves. In summary, while the jacket's aesthetics and overall performance are impressive, the issues with the wrist diameter and zipper caused some considerable inconvenience during the past winter season.

Perfect Tour or Resort

Been super happy with this jacket. Both in bounds and touring this is my new go-to. Keeps me warm but can dump heat quickly if needed.

Decent jacket. Bit heavy. Hard to start zipper.

Good material and colors. Decent feature set. Missing key stash pockets. I really miss having stash pockets on this. Wish it didn't have the powder skirt and I'm tempted to cut mine out. Hem is quite narrow and jacket is long so don't know how snow would get up there anyway. Kind of an odd fit since it fits so snugly on hips at hem and then bulges out above when things are in pockets. Sizing is good. I'm normally M, and this M works. 5'11" 180 lbs average build male.

Great Jacket. Versatile and Breathable

Just took it out for an uphill hike in Snoqualmie Valley. Unzipped the pits and was at the perfect temp for the entire way. Warm when standing. Cool when working. Solid product.

Perfect lightweight winter shell

This jacket is the perfect compromise between a traditional raincoat and a heavy duty winter shell. I bought it to use for winter hiking, but will definitely throw it in my bag for fall and spring hiking too. It is super lightweight but provides great coverage, and should layer well with my OR base layers and insulation.

Nice jacket

I only gave it four stars because you should be able to remove the snow skirt. It makes the jacket kind of clunky in the summertime.

yes if necessary, Il would buy this jacket again

Used mainly in winter as an alpine ski jacket, very well made with a lot of pocket. Also very light to wear. It is definetely a product that I like.

Lightweight yet material feels strong

This is a light weight but sturdy shell meant for use with layering. It gives you the flexibility to have a waterproof layer while preventing from overheating during spring skiing. Fits longer than the tungsten jacket allowing you to layer more easily underneath. Only thing is the zipper is a bit hard to zip together if not already locked in place, maybe it will get easier with use.

Great jacket, tight in the hips!

Jacket fits great, fends off weather great, but it's tight around my butt/hips. I'm 5'11", 200lbs, wear a 36/32 pants and a Large in jackets and shirts. Arms, chest, stomach, etc? all fit great and allow for a base and mid weight layer, no problem. When sitting and squatting the bottom hem of the jacket is tight. It works and I hope the hem holds up!

Great jacket

Love the jacket as its very versatile, but it is only a bit more than a shell. You will need to layer with this jacket, but it's done great for spring skiing, in powder, and help up in both a rain storm and a blizzard. Thats just in the 4 months I've owned it! It zips up tight to keep out the elements, or you can open the vents to expel some heat.

Love the style, just seemed too thin for me.

I love the style and the look, but this jacket just seemed like way too thin for me to use. I wanted to keep, it but ultimately sent it back with the tags on. It was so thin that it barely felt different than an ultralight rain jacket that I have. I realize it's a shell, but it seems even thin for a shell. Probably works just fine in the PNW where it's wetter, a little warmer, and there's more opportunity for touring and longer runs to get the heart rate up. But here in northern Michigan where we spend more time on the chairlift than our skis, it'd be hard to get by with a jacket this thin, even with with proper layering.

Seems mighty thin

I love the style and the look, but this jacket just seemed like way too thin for me to use. I wanted to keep, it but ultimately sent it back with the tags on. It was so thin that it barely felt different than an ultralight rain jacket that I have. Even the main zipper pockets just go straight to thin mesh. I realize it's a shell, but it seems even light for a shell. Probably works just fine in the PNW where it's wetter and a little warmer, and there's more opportunity for touring and longer runs to get the heart rate up. But here in northern Michigan where we spend more time on the chairlift than our skis, it'd be hard to get by with a jacket this thin, even with with proper layering.

Great for skiing!

I purchased this jacket from the OR shop on 1st Ave in Seattle after trying on several other jackets. This is warm, keeps me dry, offers freedom of movement, and has all of the pockets I would want. I would totally buy this again.

Happy telemark skier

By Navy s.

Very happy with this jacket, have worn it skiing 'front side' 4x now in last week. Great value, and I can see why it has good reviews. It dumps heat very well, and at the same time kept me warm when temperature was cold, windy, and snowy. Like all the pockets, too. I am a telemark skier, so want to be able to dump that heat, and athletic. I will go BC and skin later this winter and I know this shell will be perfect. I like the layering as opposed to a jacket with a liner. I think I can get a...

Awesome jacket on the hill.

By Daniel

So far so good. Super water resistant in the wet PNW mountains, yet very breathable with the vents. Good amount of pockets keeps everything close to hand.
