Even my pup gives it 2 paws up! Got one for myself and my pup! Very sturdy and comfortable pad, adds extra warmth for your sleeping setup. Used it camping at 20F and it did its job! Awesome quality pad.

Mr

This sleeping bad is good for long trips and minimalists. Our first use was in a cave. It has good insulation even on wet ground. Well insulated from the cold wet cave. Even on racks I was slept comfortably, and it protected my sleeping bag.

lightweight summer or adding warmth in the winter

It works great and adds warmth under a current sleeping pad in the winter, or I'll take it alone in midsummer. Also great for laying on during breaks.

Awesome pad

These are great pads! They are light and add insulation and padding in rocky areas. I don't know why I fought taking one of these back packing with me, world of difference.

Too many uses!

I have a couple of these and I take one on all my adventures. I also volunteer with search and rescue and we are required to carry one because of the multitude of different uses. I suppose it's original intended use is as a sleep pad. I have used it alone like that several times and it works as expected if you sleep on it alone. Now let's get into a few other common uses that I've found for it. Lay it out to kneel down in snow and dig through your bag and keep your knees off the cold ground, for a seat while taking g a snack break on the trail, for an extra insulating layer under an inflatable sleep pad, to protect your inflatable from punctures, i cut one up to add some extra padding on a pack once, i also cut pieces to make a padded belt for a home made sled once, I've also cut up an old one to make small sit pads. They are cheap and very useful not to mention super light weight. Just get one and throw it on your pack. You won't regret it.

Yay, it doesn't pop

I hike thousands of miles a year and have long used the Neoair Xlite short. It worked ok on well-made trails such as the PCT, but since I have started hiking more rugged routes such as the Hayduke and ODT and NNML the Neoair has often gotten holes that are sometimes hard to locate and repair in the middle of nowhere. I was skeptical that a foam pad would work for me but did my research and tried the shorter-length Switchback. It isn't anything like sleeping on my mattress at home, but after 20- and 25-mile days I can sleep on it better than I expected. And no popping in the middle of the night! Thanks, Nemo.

It is affordable and best in the market.

Only a step away to be the best in the industry? Short and narrow for tall people. I have been using sleeping pads for more than two decades in the Himalaya and Alaskan mountain ranges year around. I used all the brands, they were good but not the best feeling high up in the mountains. Switchback gave me the comfort and the feeling a wilderness educator or a parent will expect in the back country and in the high altitude. Soft, light and sturdy enough but not too hard. Few things can make it one of the best in the industry. Make it available WIDE, LONG and Extra long for tall people. I know NEMO team you can do it.

Most Comfortable Camping Mattress I've owned

I've spent most of my life camping on self-inflating air mattresses so I was excited to get the Switchback foam mattress. I loved my first one so I just got another one for my wife. They are super lightweight and much easier to setup/packup since you don't have to inflate/deflate. The comfort factor is most important though - the foam is firm but forgiving so sleeping on dirt or even a wood platform is perfectly comfortable. This is my forever go to camping pad.

Remarkably comfortable

I'm 6'3" and 180lb. Best sleep ever in a tent. Elbows do hang off but I don't want to pack anything wider. No stress or discomfort with deflating overnight from a tiny hole. The folded shape makes it easy to pack and it makes a nice seat. Compared to a traditional flat foam roll this is a lot softer.

The best...except it's too narrow

The Nemo Switchback is the BEST. It is far more comfy than the Exped Flexmat or the Thermarest Z-Lite. It even packs/folds down better. The problem is the width. I've been using the Flexmat, which is pales in comparison to the Switchback, because it is WIDE enough to accommodate my 25" inflatable sleeping pad. Nemo - check out the reviews...we want a wide option! Pretty please?!

Warmer than expected. Needs a wide option

bought this pad to use so my friend i was taking camping could use my nice 4.5 R value blow up pad on a previous cool weather camping trip. Temps got down to the mid 40's and this pad kept me warmer than expected with a 2 R value. My butt was a little chilly at first but after laying on the pad for a bit it warmed up and i stayed warm all night. was decently comfortable for a thin foam pad and i will definitely use this pad again as my summer pad as my other pad is far to warm for summer. My only real complaint is that i wish this pad came in a wide size. when laying down on my back there is literally no room for my arms on the pad unless i sleep on my side which is not comfortable with this style of pad. this is a back sleeper pad for sure. i have about two fingers of width on either side of my body remaining on the pad while laying down. my arms and elbows were touching the ground most of the night if i didn't have them tucked up on top of my torso. But enough complaining. Great pad, much warmer than i thought it would be, and ill definitely use it again. just wish it came in a wider 25inch or wider size

Good Pad. Needs to be wider

I tested a different name brand pads and this is the most comfortable. Except it only comes in a 20" option. My kids use it, but I had to find a different brand that offers a 24". I'm 6' and 170lbs, but I hate having my elbows hang off the side of the pad. Need a regular wide.

Best pad you can find

I did the entire PCT with a NEMO Switchback and absolutely loved it. I am a stomach sleeper and really enjoyed this pad. Perfect to always have a sit pad as well or take a siesta anywhere in the desert. If you are a side sleeper I would take caution, but otherwise this thing lasted great. Little beat down by now but for about 150+ nights of use for the price, can't beat it.

Only 20 inches wide

Very comfortable, non slip, but only 20 inches wide. That is not nearly enough for those of us who twist and turn at night. The generic knockoffs are 22 inches wide which makes all the difference. Give me a 22 inch wide variant, charge me $10 more and I will gladly pay it.

Indestructible

My indestructible Nemo Switchback is one of my favorite pieces of gear. It will never leak. Never. You can't hurt it. Go ahead and try. Drag it through briars. Sit on rocks with it. Give it your worst mistreatment, but this closed cell foam can take it. I've used mine over 100 nights, but I'll admit that I layer it on top of a 3/4 inch self-inflating pad for extra insulation when it's below freezing. And if durability isn't enough, it's also light and inexpensive.

As good as an air pad.

Essential for thru hiking! I popped too many air pads on the PCT, and finally I was fed up with it. (One tensor at mile maker 2000 and one therm-a-rest at mile marker 2300. Finally I picked up a switchback to finish my hike, and I was honestly surprised at how comfortable it was. Taking on my next hike for sure.

Insulator Pad

I bought this for use as a secondary pad for winter camping. Tried it out two nights in the fall and I believe this will be a nice addition to the kit. I will be using it with the Nemo Flyer.

Great for Car Camping (you need two)

I bought two of these for a two-person sleeping bag and now I'm just glad I bought two because they're pretty narrow, I know I'll be needing both when I camp by myself. Otherwise, though, they've been great for both car camping and tent camping. Side sleepers (which I'm not might still have some hip issues, though since the pads aren't THAT thick and do have some give.

Pretty decent pad

Super lightweight and works well. After a few days in the back country, I definitely missed my inflatable pad, but it worked. It also works amazing as a seat for taking those mid day breaks.

Really nie just wish it wasn't so narrow.

Really nice pad for the money, but I do wish it was like 25" or so instead for the width. Either as another layer under my Tensor Wide or on it's own I would find it much more functional if it weren't so skinny. The weight increase would be negligible too.

Where is the wide or large version

Extremely happy owner of a Nemo Tensor insulated. However I froze my rear off while winter camping 0°. I could feel the cold coming thru the pad in my hips. Bought this to lay underneath the tensor to jack up R value. However, the tensor (regular wide is still touching the snowy ground rendering this added layer semi useless. Sad. Please start making this in a long wide version guys! So many bigger people and people using this the beef up their sleep system. It seems easy and worth it for you!

Good for what it is

By JMLAD

These 3-4 star reviews with the only complaint being the size are ridiculous. The specs are readily available. Currently it comes in the standard size like every other pad on the market, no wide/tall model. I'm 6'1" and approaching 200lbs, I wish they made a bigger one too but that's not the point. This pad is marginally more comfortable and marginally more packable than the comparable Thermarest which has been the reference for over a decade. It is the best product in its category and it i...

Peace of Mind

By bcmazale

I bought this for a backpacking trip through the Linville Gorge in North Carolina. An avid avoider of trails, I tended to spend more time in the trees and rocks than on a marked path. As a result, I needed a sleeping pad that could take abuse. This product performed as expected. It weighs almost nothing, and it's relatively small width ensured I did not get caught on every tree in the forest. The switchbacks make it fold up nice and tight, and the product kept me warm.
