Review Summary

I love the idea of this shower. I used it for the past week for some off-grid camping. It worked?sort of. Flaw #1 is that the water pressure is very inconsistent. The foot pump worked well to pressurize the tank, but then the flow of water from the nozzle only worked well half the time. Sometimes great, sometimes not at all. As others have noted, sometimes it seemed to work better if I wasn't holding the nozzle too high off the ground. But sometimes it worked great even at 6' up. I checked for kinks in the hose under the bladder but nothing seemed visibly wrong. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I wasn't impressed. Flaw #2: It doesn't solar heat very well. I had it in direct sunlight (80 degree days) for 8-10 hours and the hottest I could get it was about 95 degrees. Not terrible, but definitely not a hot shower. I've used cheaper solar showers (the gravity hang variety) and they heat super well in the sun in a fraction of the time. I'm guessing it's because of the vertical design of the LX-not enough surface area? Or maybe too much black/too little clear plastic? My gravity solar shower is completely clear on top, black on bottom, and has a ton of surface area. Heats up GREAT. Conclusion: It's a good effort and seems to be decently made, but it's definitely not perfect. Yet. I have high hopes for future versions.

I got this after trying a few 12V showers I had seen in ads. They never had enough sustained pressure for me and wanted something simple. This shower has exceeded my expectations. After pumping up the canister with the foot pump the pressure is maintained for a couple of minutes. Its perfect when you need a shower in a pinch.

This product works as advertised, if you are not an experienced camper? Stay away from it. This is not your car pressure washer or your regular shower head at home. It worked exactly as I expected, I took this Helio portable shower with to Havasupai falls and and many other places where shower are not accessible. Thank you so much!

pulled it out, made sure everything was there and functional. We put it all away and it packed away easily and comfortably. With a Lifetime warranty, we are pretty happy with it all.

Excellent customer service. Received the O-ring in about a week. The shower works in a controlled environment. Looking forward to trying in at our next camping trip!

I bought the pressure shower brand new. It worked great when the lid was not leaking air. During the third use, the lid was leaking air preventing good pressure. I tightened the lid as much as I could, but the lid was still leaking. We ended using a bucket and taking a sponge bath. I took the lid off and noticed that the rubber gasket was missing. If i could get the inner & outer diameter of the gasket, I would appreciate it. If you sell this gasket, even better... I would recommend this product if the leaking lid can be resolved. If not, I can't recommend this product.

Cant say enough good things about it! We've had ours for over 4 years!! Its held up beautifully! We use it every night we car camp. And we do about 8-10 trips per year. Joined with the Nemo Shower Tent (i.e. we have the older brown version lol, we haven't used a state park showering facility in 4 years. I noticed alot of complaints. I can tell you first hand if you treat the shower pump with respect like you actually want it to work for years, it will. Make sure you pump vertically and don't pull on the hoses. We even add a gallon of hot water from our camp grill, after we've added 4 gallons of cold (i.e. obviously not support by Nemo lol!).

I regularly use this to rinse off after surfing. Foot pump valve failed about a year ago and with a simple email to nemo they sent me a replacement. The replacement was an upgrade over the original.

We got this shower specifically to wash our dogs paws when we ran into unexpected mud/salt water situations. It works like a charm! Quite helpful to pull out whenever we need.

Used the first time this weekend to wash dishes camping and it worked great. I like that it is compact in size when unfilled and it holds a lot of water when filled. Filling is easy with large opening as well. Haven't tried it out as a shower yet but sure it will work fine. Only thing I can see that may improve on it would be a longer foot pump hose so tank doesn't have to be right by pump which would allow the tank to set some distance away from the pump and shower.

I?ve had the smaller helio for 6+ years and have used it to hose off after mountain biking, for camping, it?s the only way I wash my bikes (great pressure level, and I used it to wash my car for 4 years. The pump eventually sprang a leak, but I fixed it. I got the bigger one so I had to refill less when using around the house (like washing the dog), and love it just as much.

This is the best solar shower on the market. It?s awesome because it stays on the ground and works using pressure that you pump with the foot pump. No more looking for a tree to hang the solar shower from.

I bought the Nemo Helio LX Shower on an impulse at REI. I am impressed you can add hot water and pump up the pressure and take an actual shower while camping in the woods.

I?ve had two of these Helios since they started making them and they are excellent for car camping. We even use them when we?re Boondocking with our trailer.

I have been using a Helio pressure shower for several years, bought one when it first came out. I am on my third one, first one the nozzle broke after 2 years heavy use. Second I gave to my son to go camping and never got it back. Third one finds uses everywhere I need a spray wash... cleaning kayak or bike after muddy encounters, dishes, anything where no water source is available. Essential whenever I go car camping, nothing like a shower under a tree in the wilds!

A friend had one of these so I registered this as a wedding gift two years ago. We use it every time we go car camping to help with dishwashing, lite bike rinsing, and portable shower if needed. The foot pump can be tedious sometimes if you need to use a lot of water, but it's better than having to lift a heavy bag of water above your head and find a surface to hang it from. I've had friends ask to borrow it as well for similar uses.

First the pressure part of this is great. We love that feature. But a few things really bug me about it. First the hoses coming out of the bottom are too flexible and soft and crimp over, choking off the water flow out. The hose at this point should have a stiff wrap around it, or use a stiffer hose to keep it from crimping shut. Second the solar capture isn't very good. Our old unit was way faster at heating up water. We do like it, the handles are surprisingly strong. The fill cap is a bit of a pain to spin on with the retainer ring. Minor design tweaks. BTW what happened to the Dark Timber tent? Such a badass tent, we sue it a ton, but it's starting to age and was hoping to direct replace it. Bring back the wall tent!!!

Short version: This is a positive review - we love the flexibility of not having to hang this in a tree. The pump worked great and the big opening was perfect for filling easily. It could heat the water better and the handles could be better designed so that you were not afraid of ripping them off - just wrap them around the entire shower instead of gluing them on by a few small spots. Long version: We had an old "sun shower" for probably 20 years. It served us well. When it died, we decided to upgrade even though we could have replaced it for about $20 with the same thing. Anyway, we got the new ( updated Helio XL. It does many things really well. I think the biggest issue is that is just much less efficient for solar heat gathering. The format ( tall tube ) and lack of a larger clear window and an insulated back make for a pretty poor heat gatherer. Leaving it out ALL DAY in 90 deg. full sun yields luke warm water. The old sun shower would have been scalding. For mid-summer, not a big deal but in the fall when the sun isn't strong I fear we will not get good hot water. Anyway, some key design changes might help - I think having one side clear and one side insulated like the old sun showers is a key to the way it absorbs and keeps heat. I would be nice to have a slightly easier to operate on/off too - something you could do one handed by yourself. Probably having it lay on its side like the smaller version would help too. The old sun shower was basically flat - so surface area gathering sun was maximized. We were careful with the handles - but they could be designed to be sturdier.

This thing is awesome. Perfect for all of your water needs while camping. We used it for showering, rinsing off the dogs, washing dishes, washing clothes, and more. it's easy to fill and to transport around. It was pretty chilly where we camped, so I didn't get to see how warm the water got, but in the sun, the water did get warmer.

Have taken this out a couple of times now. Provides good water pressure and heats up quickly. We filled it about 2/3 full and got 3 showers and also used it to wash dishes.

We bought this before a three-night car camping trip, filled it, but didn?t shower. (Our privacy shelter has not yet been delivered. However, we pumped it up to water plants at home. It has decent flow and seems quite sturdy.

Great pressure. Water runs for about 10 minutes without having to pump it up again. Holds a decent amount of water. A couple of hours in the sun and the water is warm. Only problem so far is the rubber gasket easily falls out and has to be put back in or the tank won?t hold pressure.

Got this to use in my 13' trailer without a bathroom. Works like a charm and way better than a solar shower since there aren't always great places to hang the bag from. It can be hard to get all the water out to dry and store even though the opening is large.

I have used this product about a dozen times to rinse off after diving and today the top handle broke. It was about three quarters full of water when I lifted it up with the top handle and it broke where the handle attaches to the bag. I am now afraid this will happen to the other handle on the side.

High Volume, Long-Lasting Spray
Unlike gravity camp showers that need to be hung overhead and produce dismal water pressure, Helio LX rests securely on the ground and delivers the pressure you need to wash hair, do the dishes, rinse off gear, water your plants, or wash the dog.
You can quickly and easily pressurize the voluminous 5.8-gallon tank with a foot pump - and with occasional pumps you can keep it fully pressurized for 7-10 minutes of strong, continuous spray. The tank cannot be over-inflated. Set the black tank in the sun to warm up gradually, or fill it directly with hot water for a warm shower.
Refill Helio anywhere, even without a hose. The 7-foot neoprene hose is long enough to hold it overhead for a shower, or to reach all angles of dirty gear, muddy paws, or salty wetsuits. Pair with Heliopolis privacy shelter, which has a fitted nozzle holder for hands-free overhead showering, for the ultimate home-away-from-home shower in the backcountry.
