Bought for July 2022 trip to BWCA as I knew mosquitoes would be bad. Easy to set up. Second day at a base camp had rain/2 separate thunderstorms. Top tarp leaked quite a bit over all areas. Rain was moderate to heavy at times but top tarp NOT waterproof. Quite disappointed as this was it?s first use. Does keep most bugs out, but some still got in, I assume either when people entered/exited or under side screen walls when wind blew and gaps appeared at bottom of walls. Wish there were more stake out loops along side mesh walls to keep that from happening. Not much head room at low corners, making those areas hard to use for much. Overall, pretty good, but SURE wish it did not leak with rain. Makes it much less functional!

This is an all time great piece of kit for camping in buggy places. I've taken it to BWCA (and other places lots of times and would not go back without the Bugout. Takes just a few minutes to put up, bugs are gone, wind is significantly reduced, and can enjoy an evening in peace. I notice some reviewers have complained of tearout around the corners--we haven't had that problem and have used it for years. I'd guess we have set it up at at least 100 campsites and it has seen heavy winds, rain, etc. Not sure what has caused some to have issues but good to hear Nemo will repair. The sloped setup of the Bugout is the right design. It allows you to angle corners down into a prevailing wind, and ensures rain will run off. As is often the case with outdoor gear, I've added a few modifications/improvements that would be nice to have out of the box. 1. I've sewn in a clothes line underneath the center in order to hang dish towels, wet shirts, etc. This is a tarp first and foremost and it's job is to keep things dry. 2. I've sewn some loops underneath in order to hang lights/light strings. Note: If you sew something in, you'll need to seal the hole in order to keep water out. It would be cool if Nemo could add at least some extra loops knowing that during a rainy/wet trip, you pretty much live in this thing. Finally, as this has been used heavily, over time we have experienced occasional pinhole leaks. I don't expect that a tarp will be leak-free forever based on the way we used it. A little Tenacious Tape (or in a pinch, duct tape--never go camping without duct tape) should fix the issue and get you home dry. Thanks Nemo, the Bugout is awesome.

Purchased 12'x12' with two poles for a 90-mile, 7-day paddling trip in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway. A great idea and was super excited with the idea of cooking at a table sans black flies/mosquitoes. Did set up at home verifying all parts & pieces. First camp setup on the waterway and a corner grommet area tore. No apparent way to use it without damaging further, so we carried it for a week. Nemo DID repair at no cost beyond shipping.

So i would say this does what its supposed to do, only thing, i wish they had the 9x9 still. It is quite large for the bwca but would work great for car camping.

I've had the Bugout Room Screen tarp for a few years now. I Like the lightweight and packable design. We did not get any poles with our set up, but I think that might be a good option to add. Usually we don't have a lot of problems finding appropriate trees to tie out the four corners in northern Minnesota camping areas. I would like to see an option that would make it easier to drain water off the top when it is pouring rain, so maybe that's another possibility for a use of expandable poles. The large design is great for a group to get out of the sun and or rain as needed. It's also nice to have the screen zipper down and help keep out the mosquitoes after a wet summer time. I love have it on all of our trips to make living in the outdoors more comfortable.

I love Nemo products! The Bugout Screen Room kept the mosquitos out for a month-long van camping trip through British Columbia and Alaska. The mosquitos were so bad at night that we could not cook dinner or eat outside without the BugOUt Screen Room. However, the grommet where the tarp poles attach ripped. I sent it back to Nemo and had it professionally repaired. We lightly used it on a few more camping trips and it ripped again. It does a great job at keeping bugs out but does not appear to be able to withstand being used in conjunction with tarp poles.

Bought the 12x12 just befire a recent BWCA trip; liked the larger size: if I need to I can set up my 7x9 for man tent inside and still have room to roam. It performed great on our trip, keeping out rain and bugs. It can be challenging to find enough room at many BWCA campsites with a 17' diagonal, and we had to get creative at our first site. At our 2nd campsite there were no tent pads smooth enough to sleep on that fit our tent so we set up the Bug Out and slept under that. Best sleep we had! It packs down to roughly the same size and weight as my 4 man tent. I added 2 adjustable alum poles from MSR for the lower corners and they worked great.

Bought the Bugout for trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Just got back from a trip earlier this week and it was so much more pleasant without being carried away by our state bird. Watching and listening the cloud of mosquitoes buzz around the tarp while sipping some of our favorite wilderness cocktails was delightful. Normally I would crawl into my tent and cry myself to sleep when bug hour hit, but not anymore! I do wish the screens zipped on and off instead of being attached. I see pro's and con's to each method... but I think it would be more useful to have the option to remove the screens when not needed. I'm also questioning how long the attachments will last, one use and they worked fine. I use a ridge line and connect the tarp with carabiners/friction hitch to reduce tension but keep the tarp high and tight. One additional feature to add is a loop to the middle of the tarp on the outside, so folks who use a ridge-line could have a center attachment to clip or run the line through. If you are sick of being carried away by mosquito or other bugs, get one of these. the 12x12 can easily fit 6 people and gear. We had 4 people plus gear and we could have had a dance party (maybe we did).

Nemo Scores Again! I can't say enough good about this shelter. On a recent buggy Boundary Waters trip the Bugout MADE our time completely tolerable for cooking, hanging out, and enjoying the wilderness instead of hiding out in our tents. Highly recommend for paddle-based trips in buggy territory.

I own original Morph Tent, Transform Tarp, Pentalite Tent with all accessories, 2 Sleeping Pads, Pillow and Helo Shower all from Nemo. Great products. Just received 12x12 Bug Out: I'm throughly bummed to say the least. Not about the quality but about advertising and design. The screen mesh is tapered on corners opposite the zippers. So the height at those corners is only about 41/2 feet. Wasted head room. That is not what I was told when I inquired. Bought it for Elk hunting for kitchen area. Which starts in a week. I get that was not what it was designed for however know where does it tell you the mesh is tapered. That taper decreases flexibility in my view. For what it's worth. I view Nemo as top rate. This one product leaves me scrambling for a alternative. Chuck

We purchased this screen tarp for camping trips in The Smoky Mountains, where the bugs are sure to reek havoc on your picnic, or evening casual time. Setup wasn't too bad, but we actually purchased 2 tarp poles from Nemo, and used them on the taller ends. We felt this gave it more height, as we couldn't tie it high enough to the nearby trees. My only small gripe is the 3 zippered corners are time consuming to open and close. I think a "quick catch magnet" closure might be faster. And if i could change anything, I would make the netting about one foot longer all around to add a little height. I will say, we withstood 2 major thunderstorms with heavy rain, and the tarp material is top shelf. We highly recommend buying one, if you're a car camper who likes shade and no bugs. Note: We had many inquiry's on this tent from people walking by, maybe because there's nothing else like it on the market, or maybe its because the color of the tent cover absolutely ROCKS!!.. The cool thing about the color, is that it seems to be a little brighter underneath the tent, just before dark.(almost glows)... Cool...

If you like camping in the great outdoors, but don't like all of the bugs that come with it, you need the Nemo Bugout 12x12 Screenroom. This uniquely styled screenroom features a square tarp roof with mesh side walls for the ultimate in sun shade or inclement weather protection, and the mesh makes sure the bugs don't come in and bug you. The Bugout 12x12 Screenroom sets up simply between two trees much like a tarp is strung between trees, making it easy to put up and tear down.
