I would recommend this backpack to casual day hikers and college students. I happen to be both, and it served me well on a hike up Long's Peak in CO. The price is right, and it includes waist and chest straps.

I first got the Recon backpack five and a half years ago and finally decided it was time to replace it. I couldn't bring myself to stray from what I already knew was the perfect bag for me, so I just purchased another recon in a different color. This pack has been back and forth with me to high school, college, overseas trips, and on the occasional camping trip. It has provided me with the perfect amount of storage, academically and recreationally, and even carried enough to be my only bag on a week-long vacation. Honestly, if you're looking for a great bag that will last you for years, you've found it.

Needed a new backpack for college, pricing was terrific,many colors to choose from. First drawback, found the zipper to be a little shy in length so you have to load in smaller items first towards front of bag in large compartment. Secondly, no padding for a laptop should you put it in there.

I've owned many NorthFace backpacks and this one really caught my eye based on its simple yet elegant design and choice of colors. The Recon backpack has a fair amount of space and I use it regularly for school. However its capacity does pale in comparison to that of the Surge, which I also own. For its size I like the style of the Recon and it is easily my daily backpack, but when I have to carry multiple thick and heavy books on top of my notes and laptop, I prefer a larger bag.

I had a Recon that lasted over 7 years of constant day-to-day use, and it would probably last a few more years! It started showing some wear, and it was time for a new one. The fact it comes in bright colors now, was the best selling feature for me. I am sure this one will last just as long as the last!

Compared to my old backpack, this one is great! I'm currently a college student who carries a laptop, 2-4 textbooks, notebooks and folder almost everyday. Instantly I noticed a difference. It feels so much lighter and is less bulky so it doesn't look like I'm carrying all those books. The only con I have is that it is a very tight fit for my laptop. My laptop is an abnormal 16in. I figured with the dimension of the backpack that it would fit..and it does. It is just a tight fit. Overall I would recommend this backpack to anyone.

My eighth grader has to carry three textbooks home a night plus several notebooks. Her backpack is heavy but comfortable and everything gets in there, including her lunch bag. Add to that, all her friends think the lime green color is very cool!

Great school pad. Straps allow you to make backpack compact and easy to carry. Good padding allows walking long distances without fatigue.

I use this backpack daily for school. It fits my laptop, daily average it holds for me comfortably thirty to forty lbs. I love all the compartments. The color is my favorite. It isn't bulky. I would have liked a bigger waist belt and buckle. I would have liked a deeper mesh water bottle holder on each side. Other than that I LOVE this backpack.
