I've been using the trail shot for about 3 years. I've had issues with the flow because of the reservoir not filling completely. The best way I've found to fix this is to unscrew the bottom piece that goes in the water and remove the rubber valve, begin filtering water to allow the reservoir to fill completely full, then replace the rubber valve and continue to filter. Once this has been done it filters water quickly.

I have not used the Trail Shot extensively, but it has worked very well when I have used it. I tend to use the MSR Hyperflow more frequently for speed, when weight is not a factor. The Trail shot is a little more labor intensive for my arthritic hands, but it is an excellent option.

I have used many filters and this one is now my favorite. Although I wish it had just a little longer hose. That is the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars.

Used this on multiple bikepacking trips with questionable and/or limited water on some occasions. It's lightweight and never let me down yet.

Love this filter!! It takes up almost no space in your pack. I really like the option to drink straight from it, and when I fill bottles, it goes quick. The plastic doesn't 'rebound' as quick as I'd like when filling, but it'll still fill a few liters quickly. Definitely only good for 1 person, maybe 2. Wouldn't plan to have a whole team using it, but thats not what its for. Prefect for 1 person though. Great addition to my pack!

I love this filter and used it in western Oregon for 7 days on the trail last year with great success but this year when backpacking with my son it had very little flow. Hardly even used it and I needed it. I tried to free it up as suggested but now looking to replace the guts for about the price of a new one.

only used it a handful of times last summer. Used it last night on a bike packing trip and seemed to be clogged and very slow flow. I like the compact size for bike packing but I had a hard time using it efficiently on my trip ! I took care of it well but didn?t last.

Works well for a quick filter on the go. As far as filtering multiple bottles worth of water, it would be kind of annoying but doable. Very simple, easy and light.

Used on one hike, works well so far. Vey comfortable to use (you don't have to float rubber bottles empty-handedly in cold stream water at -6C like with other filters). I hope it will last.

I bought this cuz it's light and compact. On my third time using it, the body kept popping off the red filter sleeve, causing water to squirt out when pumping...with nothing making it through the filter. Fortunately I had a small zap strap to secure the body to the inner filter and got it working. I suggest MSR consider such a design improvement. Also, I wish it came with a bag. Once out of the package, it's apt to get damaged or dirty kicking around in my pack. A small stash bag would be an awesome feature. Other than that, good value for money.

I purchased my trailshot in 2019. I've hiked over 300 miles and i use it in the streams, creeks, and lakes. I fill up my hydro flask, soak my froggie cool towel with it, clean my face with it, etc. I've never had 1 problem at all. I take care of my stuff. I'm not hard on the equipment I hike and camp with. You take care of most things and they will last. Great product MSR.

I was contacted by customer service to have a look at my filter, which I really appreciate. Thank you MSR! I had already purchase a replacement filter cartridge and my filter is working like a charm again. I am wondering if what I needed was more silicone application while using the first one. This may have been a user issue in that regard........ (I can't seem to edit or comment on my first review). Sorry MSR.

I have a Trailshot that I used for a few years ago. At the end of that time, I removed the top+filter to clean it. Now I cannot get it fully re-seated into the reservoir. Are there any tricks?

I have taken this on a longer backpacking/packrafting trip and a couple shot weekend outings and have absolutely enjoyed the portability and ease of use. Much faster than the sawyer filter my friends were using.

Favorite filter I've ever used. Use for mtbing, fits in my hip pack or backpack. Very efficient and quick to use without compromising filtering quality. Much easier to keep clean than a column design. Very compact design for packing

I take this awesome light weight filter on my multi day backpacking trips. It's small so great for packing yet efficient in filtering water quickly. Love the variety of use it offers..drink straight from the filter or fill up a container! Wish there was an option of buying just the filter part replacement

No question - favorite water filter ever used! This pump won my heart during a two-week bikepacking Trip on the Colorado Trail. It was my sole source of water purification, (with Aqua tabs as a backup) and did not let me down. This thing goes with me everywhere, and I keep one in the truck for emergencies.

I really like this for long day hikes. We've been using it since we got it and the only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that it would be nice to have double the tubing length. It's so short that one must almost be laying down to use it. Double the length of tubing would not be a significant impact on the weight.
