Lost on the road ! With my MSR Stove WhisperLite International Combo
I am purchasing an MSR stove on February 21, 2024 (MSR WhisperLite International Combo Stove).
I'm planning to cycle down South America. I'm not testing it, for fear of having problems at the airport because of gasoline smells.
I am now in South America (Bolivia). I have just crossed the Uyuni desert, bivouacking in -10 C cold while eating biscuits.
In fact, I've been trying to get this stove to work for a week and it doesn't work.
No matter how hard I pump, there is no pressure in the bottle. Is the seal too old, is the pump not working?
Even though I press the pump 40 or 60 times, there is no resistance (bottle two-thirds full). I manage to put a little gasoline in the cup, to ignite it, but since there is no pressure, it does not work, there is no power supply. essence.
The irony is that I have the same stove I bought in 1981, it still works (I never changed anything on it)!
I wanted to buy a new one!! What a mistake!
I have to go through Tupiza (Bolivia), Villazon (Bolivia), San Salvador de Jujuy (Argentina), Salta (Argentina), San Miguel de Tucuman (Argentina), etc?. to Ushuaia.
What can you do to help me?
Should I buy a small stove and throw away the MSR? Or should I carry it on my little bike already overloaded to Ushuaïa for nothing, eating cold food during all my bivouacs (3 months of travel remaining)?
It's an emergency. What do you offer me? I guess it's still under warranty.

Useful, but might not fix everything
Kit included easy to follow instructions. I used it to replace all the o-rings in my fuel pump. But now the pump leaks more than before. I can't tell if that's because of something wrong with the pump itself (no visible cracks, but it's >10 years old), or if the new o-rings weren't good. So, hard to say, but I'm glad I had the ability to try and replace things before buying a new pump.

I wish the annual kit
I wish the annual kit had a pump cup as part of the kit. I had to buy another kit just for the cup, which was costly considering I just purchased a kit.

maintenance ensures your stove lasts
maintenance ensures your stove lasts longer. im still using my 50 yr old msr stove w/ the rigid fuel line

Essential and excellent kit!
This is a great little product that?s exactly what I needed for my Whisperlite stove. I hadn?t serviced mine in some 18 years (guilty looks abound) but a few minutes of work with this kit had it as right as rain. Excellent quality product and value for money, but then again, that?s anything with the MSR name on it. Highly recommended. PK

The pleasure level of a backcountry trip will take an immediate nosedive if your stove does not work. Especially during dry times when fire is not an option. Keeping your MSR stove fit & ready is essential and all you need is the Annual Maintenance Kit. All the small parts, tools & washers are in one place. Restored my old pump back to life.
I was able to restore my 30 year old, Whsiperlite International Stove Pump back to perfect working condition with this kit! Very happy. I have a lot of fond memories using that original stove, now it has new life.

Have not used yet but has everything I need for my Windburner Duo and based on secondhand stories and other testimonials, I won't be going into the backcountry without mine.

Small and Easy To Use
My dad gave me his Whisperlight Stove when I started my backpacking adventures and it is my favorite piece of gear. Its compact, lightweight and has never failed me. The fact that I have everything I need to fix it if something does break, or whenever it needs a little bit of cleaning in a tiny package makes this kit perfect. I take it every time I go out incase of an emergency fix and I hardly ever notice it (because my stove is a TANK and has never needed an emergency fix). Every one with a MSR stove needs this kit.
