Hint for pumping

Hint: when the chamber fills with water, there is always some air in it. Only push to pump water out until just before the air, ie: do not push bubble of air thru. So I tip the filter down toward the bottle and it works well. The filter does not like pumping air. This works well.

Great water filter.

I bought this filter after a lot of research. It won in my opinion for a couple of reasons, 1. you can replace the filter and instead of just using for a year or two my wife and I have been using this filter for ten years now. We had to buy replacement filters but with proper care, MSR has videos for how to do you it, you can really get your money's worth. 2. It has stood the test of time and that is not that common anymore. Does this mean it's perfect, no. It can be a bit cumbersome to pump into a bottle. I also believe that the new design with the lid for a Nalgene bottle is an excellent addition. However, this is not practical for all senes some don't use these bottle. Overall it is a great filter and I would reamend it. 3. it work great for two people or a group!

Years of reliability

I've had one of these filters since it's release, several years now. It's been my go to on backpacking trips, thru-hikes and backcountry hunting trips all over the western United States. I've supported multiple people in all of these scenarios with a single filter. I may have backwashed it a handful of times and still using all original parts... Just ordered a replacement filter and maintenance kit to ensure that it remains my go to for years to come.

Water Filter Ritual

Hyper Flow Microfilter I just used my new Hyper flow Microfilter for a four night backprack trip in the Olympic National Park. It work effortlessly for me each day. I store it in the brain of my pack for easy access. After each use it fits compactly in the small bag it comes with. I actually look forward to the ritual of sitting by a mountain stream, river or lake and filtering water with the Hyper flow Microfilter. Thank you very, very much for this handy filter.

Great product

Outstanding product with a genius design. Solid build and easy workability makes this guy my new best friend for those back country outings. Not as light as the hand pump but probably more reliable.

Impressions after extensive 8 years of use

I have used approximately 6 different filters from 3 manufacturers. This one is the one I have been using exclusively for the past 8 years.

Works great until it doesn't

I've used the Hyperflow for years, including my PCT thru-hike in 2018. It works amazingly for the first 10 liters or so. Then it quickly gets plugged up and becomes very strenuous to pump. There's no way it gets the 3L/minute after a few days of use. The maintenance manual recommends backflushing every 8L. With a new cartridge, I was religious about backflushing every day or every other day on the PCT. It didn't help. It is a fantastic filter that I absolutely trust with my health, but it requires an incredible of amount of slow, labor-intensive pumping. A previous review says you should be prepared to buy a new $40 cartridge for every trip. I concur with this assessment.

Lightweight

At 55 years old and still hiking the mountains, light weight and durability is the key to keep on moving for me. This has been great for my multi day hikes across the Enchantments, WA.

Just get one, you won't regret it.

Love this pump so much I bought a second one. I got tired of swapping bag to bag and now I always have one on me no matter what trip I am going on. Such a simple, fast and effective way to collect drinking water in the backcountry.

The best pump style water filter

I've used this filter for close to ten years now. Filtering water from glaciers to muddy streams. It has always worked. (Sometimes slower than normal because I usually wait to be home to do back flushing and maintenance.) it has worked well for me in all temps from below freezing to sweltering. While it is light and small enough to bring on day trips I usually reserve it for longer trips when clean water is critical. Always in the pack when on multi-day/week trips.

Fast, light and very reliable

I've owned this filter for several years. I've used it for week-long trips with my wife and countless shorter trips. It's super light, small, very fast and reliable. The field serviceable back flow feature is a plus and prolongs the life of each filter. I doubt I'll ever own a different filter.

Great filter for medium to light weight backpacking.

This is my 2nd one. These water filters are extremely reliable. My first one has lasted approximately 12 years. While I see my friends change their filter pumps every 2 to 3 years, this one remain reliable. Compact and light weight. Also provides relatively fast fills, especially if you are able to pin the pre-filter under water.

Reliable filter for backcountry excursions

I have used it on a regular basis in and around So California - hunting, hiking, backpacking, etc. I use it mostly as a group filter as for solo trip I use a smaller filter. I've had none of the problems that some others have listed. I have back flushed the filter at home a few times for the heck of it. It continues to filter water quickly with minimal effort. The pre filter has a velcro strap to hold a rock or such. This holds the pre filter at the bottom of the creek or wherever you place it. My only complaint is that mine weighs more than the listed weight on this website, only a couple of oz difference but it adds up.

Fastest System Yet

I have used this filter about 10 times now and It has not shown any sign off clogging; its fast and fills a 32oz nalgene (adapter cap included) in 20 strokes. It also attaches to a MSR Dromedary Bag, so you can have reserve water if needed (we always use every bit of pumped water for hanging out at the campfire and early morning cooking and refills for the next days hike). We have had several MSR water filters, stoves, etc... Always quality mountaineering products.
