I LOVE it! It was a game changer for me. I am the CEO and guide of a non-profit backpacking company and guided a group this past week and it was absolutely helpful. Within 10-15 minutes or so, I had 10L of water ready to go for the group to drink. We did over 30L over the entire adventure while exploring the mountains and multiple lakes. The lake water tasted so pristine after filtering it. Very quick set up. I used a piece of webbing to wrap around a tree and a carabiner to clip the bag to. We were so happy to have it for the trip. Great job MSR for the awesome design and functionality.

Love this product. I live in an apartment building that has bad pipes and horrible water. I got tired of packing 5 gal jugs up the stairs and bought one of these. I learned after the filter clogged once you need to flush it every bag or 2 if the water is dirty. It's super fast and easy to maintain. I filter into the 5 gallon clean water jug my water dispenser uses or on camping trips use a five gallon bladder that holds two bags of the filter.

Works great. Wish it came with a second bag to fill.

I tried this out at home before I left. 6L in 13 minutes. Which was awesome! When I really needed it to work when filtering water at a spring in the Grand Canyon, it trickled out and cost us an extra half hour. I tried backflushing. Nothing worked to make it faster. Later on the same trip it worked fast like it did when I first tested it. It's a bit of a bummer not being able to count on it to always be fast. I will still use it though. When it is working as it should it saves a ton of hand pumping time and hassle.

This is a wonderful filter to take with a group or when you anticipate needing a lot of water. It filters quickly. It's easy to set up and use. I like being able to fill the bag and walk away as it fills our water bottles.

If you screw the filter too tightly on the Nalgene, it won't flow. Perfect for us! After we figured it out.

After using my consistently reliable MSR MiniWorks for about 20 years, I decided it was time to upgrade to the AutoFlow XL for our annual trip to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, in Minnesota on the Canadian border. With three of us to filter water for, I did not want to have to pump that much water by hand each day! I knew I could depend on MSR for a dependable water filter. The Autoflow XL was AWESOME. Scoop up 10 L dirty water and filter it into my collapsible 8 L wide-mouth collapsible canteen or 1 L Nalgene bottles. I love that it screws right onto my wide mouth bottles, and it's easy to shut-off while changing clean bottles. I'll still use my MiniWorks for solo trips, but AutoFlow XL worked fast and easy, with no pumping! The only downside was on the first day we used it, we accidentally left the hang strap attached to the tree when we packed up to leave our campsite the next morning, and didn't realize it until we made camp later that night in a different campsite. We managed to hang it up in a tree using paracord, but I'm hoping to find where to order a replacement strap. Bottom line: EXCELLENT FILTER, fast and easy to filter water, backflow to clear debris if clogged worked well, and it was simple to clean for long-term storage when I returned home. Thanks for another great product MSR!

So far, love this. It's simple and light. Love having a bank of water in camp and definitely loved not having to pump while chasing my 3-yo around camp. The only thing that was a little tricky was getting water from a super shallow stream into the bag w/ out another cup or something. Not a biggie though.

My favorite filter. Use it for marginal water sources in the desert for work (trails, wilderness stewardship) and for pleasure. Dependable, robust. With the back flow function, and a preliminary container to settle out with alum, this filter can handle the muddiest, most marginal water when you really need it deep in desert backcountry. (please keep making it!)

We had 8 on our trip and the Autoflow was loved by all. Really tied the cooking/camp area together. The backflushing was easy. Half of us had bladders with quick connect, so I purchased an extra quick connect to attach to the end of the outlet hose. I found no use for the bottle adapters that came with the item. Sadly, after I got home I set the filter cartridge on the kitchen counter, and it rolled off and hit the floor with a notable cracking sound. I followed the instructions I found on a video to test viability and the thing was obviously toast. Actually I would have been able to tell by the way the water flowed through without hindrance at all that it was broken. I'll be buying a replacement cartridge before my next trip.

I have used this filter all over the lower 48 but also on several remote rafting trips in Alaska. It performed great even with glacial silt laden rivers.

I had a pump filter before this. It got clogged all the time and the filter needed trip-to-trip replacement. By chance, I came across this one. I think I found the filter for every situation. Light, versatile, and intuitive.

My first use with this was on a 20+ mile over night hike on part of the Kesugi Ken Ridge trail in Alaska. This is better than the competition (which I have also owned) because of the external filter. This bag has a mesh screen inside the bag that will keep debris from getting to the external (hose) filter and clogging it up. You also don?t need to reach inside the bag to change the filter. The flow rate is excellent and as long as you follow the directions on how to prime it, it works wonderfully. As an Alaskan that spends multiple weeks hiking & hunting in the back country, I trust this filter for clean, drinkable water.

Got this to use on group outings. It filters large amounts of water quickly. Back flushing the system to keep it running is a non-issue. I highly recommend this filter system.

In 20+ years of operating a wilderness river guide service in Alaska, this filtration system is superior to any that my guide teams and I have used over the years. The large bag for collecting river water, super fast rate of filtration, ability to be back flushed when dealing with water containing particulate matter, ease of use, etc. have proven this system to get the job done.

This water filtration system was the single best investment for my recent through hike of Isle Royale National Park. Most water sources were a long walk from the campsite, and the 10L bag was so helpful. Very sturdy, really easy to use.

I just got back from a 10 day backcountry float and I was very happy with the performance of the AutoFlow Gravity Filter. A big step up from pumps, and way better than tablets/UV purification for bulk water. The flow rate is not incredibly fast, but when you are making camp, fill the bag set it near camp, and go on with whatever other camp tasks you have (tent setup, cooking, whatever) The water flows through the filter and into the clean bag and instead of you needing to be there to babysit, you can move on to more pressing or fun things. I don't think this filter is for every purification need (i'd rather have a pump if I was in the desert drawing from springs from. I'd rather use a UV pen/tablets if I'm ultralight backpacking or extremely space/weight limited.) The filtering was not noticeably slowed as the river started to blow out and had more sediment. All in all I see this being a great option for anyone one on a group trip near lakes/rivers that plans on camping nearby.

This extra-large AutoFlow gravity filter system delivers 10 liters of clean water fast-all while you set up camp, prep dinner or relax. And its big capacity means fewer trips to the river to haul the water you need. Similar in packable size to a 4L system, the AutoFlow XL system's durable flat base doubles the water volume for only 340 g (12 oz) of total weight. Ultralight and supremely packable, it offers the luxury of pump-free group filtration for basecamps, scout troops, horsepackers and other backcountry groups. And just one 10-liter fill of the reservoir can supply 1-2 people with a whole day's worth of clean water.
