Small

5'11 195ish. Size L. Unlike other Marmot jackets, this one is almost a standard M in size L. Maybe a L running M that you could almost pretend fits. It does not. Otherwise as described.

Thin, light but good insulation value

Extremely light yet warm enough in 35f temps with just a flannel shirt underneath. The outer material being very thin & soft, I wonder how well it will hold up over time. But the sale price sold me on it!

A jacket you must consider for the collection.

I find this jacket to be extremely comfortable, warm when necessary, cool enough when not necessary, and rather flattering in terms of how it fits my body type.

Marmot's technical items seem much higher quality than their casual ones, and that holds true for this hoodie. Super warm without the bulk of a puffer, and feels well made. Fits well for my build, and has nice features like drawn cord and inner pocket.

A Great Warm Jacket

This is a great jacket. Very, very warm. Temp in the 20's and only wore a base layer underneath and was perfectly comfortable. It's cozy, kind of like wearing a sleeping bag.The size is listed as Regular fit, which I think it is, but on the small end of that. The fit is pretty good, it fits as I hade hoped, and expected. You can definitely fit a base layer under it, and a tight fitting mid layer should work as well. That really should be about all you need with this jacket, maybe a shell over top for rain or snow. The hood fits nicely, it does lack any adjustments. But I haven't so far found that to be an issue. This jacket seems to be very well made and durable. I expect years of use. I bought the twilight blue, it does seem to be a little darker than the photos, but still a nice shade of blue. If you are looking for a well made jacket, that is extremely warm on it's own, consider this one, you won't be disappointed.

Great jacket. Warmer than I expected..

I got a good deal on this jacket so decided to buy it and was pleasantly surprised. It's super comfortable and warmer than I anticipated. In the questions section for the Active novus jacket someone asked which between the active and regular novus jackets were warmer and they replied the active novus was the warmer of the two. I own both and think the regular novus is warmer since it doesn't have the ventilation like the active. Either way both are great jackets. The regular novus is really comfortable and made of a quality fabric that doesn't feel rough on your skin. I did notice the jacket seemed to get stinky pretty quick but it's easy to wash and clean. I am a 32 waist with a 40r chest and opted for the medium which fits me really good. Fits good enough to be alone, wear something under, and be able to fit a shell or outer jacket if needed. I find it quite versatile and will most likely use this more than my feather jackets since I can wash it and it's so versatile. Zippers work well. It's well made with comfortable hand warming pockets. I would recommend this jacket to anyone. I live in Southern California so the warmth level is perfect for our weather. I could see this as being a great mid layer for colder areas. If you can get it for a good discounted price when it's on sale and you need a non technical jacket I would personally buy it in another color.

Pleasantly Surprised By This Impulse Purchase!

Purchased the Red Novus Hoody about a month ago on impulse due to the color and loving it. Have been using it in the 20's and 30's typically with a long sleeve base and fleece vest and I believe it keeps me warmer than another jacket I use made by Pgonia that has "puff" in the title?. I'd recommend just keeping an eye on preventing from rubbing up on anything coarse or sharp that could rip the thin outer of this jacket. Definitely recommend.

AMAZING HOODY!

I just got this Hoody and it has been awesome. I worn it today with just a regular t-shirt underneath (not even a long sleeve) and it was 37 degrees outside, and I did not fee any cold. PERFECT HOODY. I wish it was waterproof. I am 5,6 155 lbs and size S fits perfectly.

Great Jacket

I had bought the Novus light last year for walking in colder temperatures. It worked so well I knew I had to have the regular Novus for even colder temperatures. This jacket is everything the light version is. It's just warmer. I have been enjoying it well down into the low 30's F, when going to the store or running errands. Both jackets work great as stand alone jackets or as a mid layer or cover for a mid layer when the temps turn even colder. The only negative I found is the inside and outside of the jacket are the same color and like material, and a couple of times I almost put it on inside out.

Amazing quality and value in a synthetic piece.

I think this is the best heavyweight synthetic piece for overall warmth and value. I have not yet used it for high exertion activity, but I believe that it will perform as well if not better than competitive pieces from brands that charge a lot more. It is definitely bulky though, so not a weight saving piece for fast ascents.

Great all purpose jacket or midlayer for cold days

Has worked very well at 25-45F when strolling in the woods or in town. Very pleased with how breathable it is and how warm it is able to go without needing to remove it.. It has been mild this winter so I have been wearing the novus lt hybrid a hint more. But when the weather gets colder, looking forward to wearing this as a midlayer for snowboarding (5F-20F) Really like the flexibility and fit. Despite being made of nylon, it is soft and comfortable against skin. Does not tug at the shoulders when doing windmills and moving my arms around. Medium probably would have worked, but was just a bit too restrictive for me so I went with the large.

My Favorite Hoody

I am 5'8" with an athletic build and spend the majority of my day outside almost every day. This is hands down the best hoody I own. It keeps me warm when it's cold outside, doesn't over-heat with (reasonable) activity, and looks professional if this style is acceptable in your workplace. I also have kids in my house and this jacket has been no stranger to food, dirt, or debris. It was washed well, maintaining it's size, color, and feel. It also layers well with a shell for protection against wet weather.

Everything is great except the arms

As others have said, this is a great, toasty jacket - the warmest non-down jacket in my closet, which is exactly why I bought it. I love everything about it except that the arms are tight. I'm an old distance runner & a long way from having giant arms, but especially in the forearms this is on the edge of too tight, even with nothing but a T underneath. I can take tight arms in a fleece jacket and while I can't imagine I'd try to layer under this, it would be impossible. I have several Marmot jackets (6-7?) from different years & styles and have never worn anything but a L. Moving up to an XL seems like a mistake since the jacket fits great everywhere else and I'm not looking for a big baggy puffy. Still thinking about whether to return it or not.

So close

I have only worn the Novus Hoody a few times but overall there's a ton to like. The insulation level is good for me for a daily jacket in the 30's and 40's. The elastic wrist bands are excellent for keeping the sleeves in place and preventing any drafts. The pockets are roomy and the pocket inside the jacket is good for thin items. The lining is suitably soft. I only have two minor complaints. First, I have a medium and all the dimensions and fits are great except the sleeve diameter is just a little tight when wearing a hoody or sweater underneath even with average sized arms. Second, the collar tends to ride funny in that it doesn't fold down well when not zipped all the way. I would definitely recommend/buy again if it's on sale.

Exceeded expectations

This jacket is very nice quality and lightweight, fairly packable given the insulation level. I use it as an everyday jacket. I typically run hot and I would wear this jacket in the range of negative temps to 40 degrees F and then swap out for a lighter insulation, dependent on activites being performed. That being said, its very warm and I wore this recently when it was a high of -3 with windchills in the -30s. I was comfortable with only a short sleeve on underneath as the jacket is excellent at blocking out wind. Sometimes the synthetic material on these jackets can leave cold arms when wearing only a short sleeve underneath but I have not encountered feeling cold even once in this jacket. The pockets have ample size, including the interior left chest pocket and nice placement. The zippers are durable and easy to use. I am about 200lbs and 6'1", 36" waist and 42" shoulders. The L size fits great, runs slightly large but leaves room to layer a crewneck or longsleeve underneath if layers are needed. The drawstrings on the bottom are nice to cinch the jacket closer to body and prevent wind from coming in underneath. The hood is fitted and does good overall but when extremely gusty winds, the hood can fail to stay in place and close to your head. Added drawstrings would be nice to cinch the hood tight when needed. I was able to buy this jacket during black friday sale for 40% off, but overall I would highly recommend this jacket even at full price.

Cozy and comfy! But inaccurate color

Jacket is slightly puffy which makes it feel very cozy to wear. Love the materials, well made, comfortable, and mostly fits nicely except the sleeves are a bit long. For anyone interested in the Dark Azure color, be aware that the photos online don't accurately represent the real color in person. Online looks like it's a bright vibrant blue. In reality, it's more of a darker royal blue (which looks gorgeous but not what I was expecting). Still love it though.

Perfect mid-weight coat

Very lightweight but still warm. I live in a city in the northeast and need something to wear outside for walks and errands when it's cool enough for a jacket but when my winter coat is overkill. I tried 4 other jackets first and the Novus is the only one that's exactly what I was looking for.

Awesome Jacket

Definitely has an athletic fit to it, but I wear large in all other jackets and this one fits perfectly. I'm between 5'-11" and 6' with broad shoulders, 44" chest, so the next size down definitely wouldn't fit. Looks good, really warm, wind resistant, comfortable. Plus, it has the nice elastic wristbands to keep the sleeves from draping over your hands, which is a huge pro. Marmot crushed it with this one.
