Lightweight but effective

I ordered a pair of these to go with a Noah's tarp back in April. I finally had a chance to take them and the tarp out for a 3 night camp out this weekend and I am pleased. I was concerned about the durability as one user noted that their broke in a 35 mph wind. My fiance and I caught a high mountain wind storm over the weekend that easily surpassed the 35 mph benchmark, and the tarp was configured in such a way that it was acting as a wind block that would have increased the loading on the poles. I expected them to fail, as they were subjected to hours of gusting winds, yet they survived unscathed. My only complaint is that the shock cord locks you into one height, and I think there may be some scenarios where a different pole height (shorter, definitely would not suggest going longer than these currently are) might be preferable. The cording that holds the individual components of each pole together inhibits this flexibility, though it's very simple to cut the cord if so desired.

Good value Staff Pole

Very nice stow case. Well made. I needed to customize my length by removing 6 inches, and it was simple to do.

not what I expected

My own fault, but I really expected a pair of poles I was disappointed to find you changed the color of the fabric of the Noah fly. The dark shade of green isn't nearly as cool as a shade tarp.

A bit deceptive? or am I stupid?

We haven't been able to use the pole because we needed to purchase 2....I think the sales/marketing of this item was a bit deceptive....perhaps I should have realized that the poles didn't come as a set, but the illustration of the Noah tarp with poles does not make it clear that you need to actually purchase 2. I just assumed and now have to wait another week + before they arrive.

Nice pole.

If you have the Noah's tarps this is a must. The tarp itself is great, but the poles open up more options including free standing pitching. I could see the benefit of the extender poles, but they are more expensive. These are fine.

Nice poles, but could be stronger...

Tried these and the adjustable version out for tarp setups. These are nice and light and come apart for a nice small package. As another reviewer mentioned, a storage pouch would be a good option. Where these come up short is that they are the same height as the kelty adjustable poles in their lowest setting, but they seem much weaker. These just seem to thin for their height and they will end bending under a strong wind load. Unless weight is a big issuse, go with Kelty adjustable version of these poles. MSR now makes a shorter lighter version of adjustable poles that might be better for someone looking for a light weight pole for traveling with a Noahs Tarp.
