Good replacement for my old Apex.

I really loved my old 15 year Apex 2 but it was worn out. This one seems a close replacement. Fabric not as durable and poles more cumbersome and no liitle airvent by where your head would be. Good changes are more head room when you sit up and includes foot print and better color not to attract flying insects.

Nice tent for the money

I picked this up four years ago to replace a 20++ year old 2-3 man geodesic dome I wore out. Pros: Love the weight (lighter by 1/2), and with the dual vestibules it's almost as roomy as the former. It has sloughed off downpours in gusty winds with nary a shudder. Half the tent is mesh, lose the fly on warm, clear nights--viola, no 'skeeters and a view! Cons: Short of leaving one vestibule open, condensation remains problematic in low temps (~30's and colder) even with one man. Fiberglass poles. Skinflint that I am, I got the 'glass when Aluminum used to be an option...there is the Pinnacle Pass, however. ;) Overall, I am very pleased with the Apex 2XT.

The Apex tents are designed by Eureka! to be rapidly setup- we're talking less than 5 minutes if you're in a hurry (we all know at the end of the day everyone's in a hurry). This is possible thanks to the freestanding frame that uses shock cords to attach to the speed hub. The modified dome shape of the tent has steeper walls and uses interior space more efficiently. Large mesh doors in the front and rear provide easy access, and the two vestibules are a fantastic place to store packs, dirty boots, and other gear that you don't want inside the tent. The floor of the tent is protected from water with the bathtub floor that wraps up around the sides of the tent. There are handy vents in the top fly and mesh panels in the roof of the tent to prevent condensation inside the tent body, and an awesome gear loft that adds storage overhead. This is an excellent all-around tent for anyone who needs a versatile, weatherproof tent that can be set up fast and easy.
