New experience with PLB40

happy with my PLB 40 , although it has an unpleasant odor when in use ( hopefully this will decrease over time), just received and have only used a few times...and fully charged 2 times due to testing over several days. I would like to hear some feedback about that from DOMETIC technical...thank you

Battery plb40

Works as stated. I run in line with my cooler so when my truck is running it charges and when it isn't the cooler is still cold.

Worth the cost!!!!

Runs my CX5 cooler, in my car, for about four days without recharging! It takes a while to recharge it, especially with the vehicle charger. But once it's charged, it stays charged for a long time! Plus, the small footprint helps when you're packing your car with Charis, tents, and other bulky things! It's 100% silent - not even any clicking or fan sounds. Sleek design and easy to use!

Worth money

Bottom line, this is my second power bank for the second car. The first one I have 3 years. No issues. Keep my fridge in the car running for 2-3 days (summer vs winter) without any need for additional charging. Solid and durable produce. Love it.

Great Battery!

I just got a chance to test the PLB40 and was pleased to see it only used 35% of capacity over 18 hours of CFX3 45 fridge use. This includes initial startup. Look forward to more use under other conditions. Very well made also!

A MUST have for travel!

I am using the PLB40 to keep our dometic CFX 35 cold when we are not driving. I keep it connected to our plug in the bed of our truck and the CFX35 so that when we are driving I can charge the PLB 40 and then when we stop the PLB 40 takes over. Works like a champ!

Initial Review

A few things after a several 1,300 mile road trips: My setup looks like this in my 4Runner: - Secondary Battery - Always hot 12V outlet in back, connected to the PLB40, connected to a CFX3-45. This way, the cooler would always be on until I run out of battery (which would be a remote possibility). I hope that makes sense. - One trip 1, the problem is that it all worked intermittently and I troubleshooted every single combination down to cords, fuses, my own 4Runner connections, AC/DC, etc. I'm pretty sure that I diagnosed it down to a faulty cord (the one with the Anderson Connector. It's a little disconcerting if you can't trust your systems. -HERE'S THE GREAT NEWS: I sent a note note into Dometic Support, told them I needed a new cord. Three days later I had a whole new PLB40 unit. Hooked everything up, took another trip and it all worked as planned. The CFX functioned continuously for a week. Minimal driving during the day, everything worked!!! Thank you Dometic, for great Customer Support!!!!

Incomplete product

Incomplete product, the battery needs protection for the charging source. I.e. do not drain the car battery. Need Bluetooth and wifi. Needs to be able to be plugged into several charging sources at one time. This battery requires a lot user input/operation and handling

Defective plb40

I purchased a plb40 and it had a problem On the first charge. I haven't even completed the first charge nor have I had a chance to use it . Dometic wants to repair it instead of sending a new replacement. I've sent 5 pages of info and pics and am still waiting. I happen to have 12 dometic products but am very dissatisfied at this point. The customer service is VERY disappointing.

Love this battery.

I have been using the PlB40 for 4 years in my Jeep. That is where it stays for most the year. I bring it and the fridge into my office in the winter. For the rest f the year it's charged via a 100w solar panel on my roof rack. It also keeps my BlackVue battery charged for the front and rear dashcams. Works flawlessly. However recently I decided to hook up my Uniden SDS-200 and a Touch Scanner remote head. That was a bad idear I guess. It short circuited the USB ports. No fuses blown. Now it is discharging and displays the warning signal. Looking to have it repaired but waiting on Dometic to tell me why short circuited. I would buy again.

Amazing battery!

I was skeptical of the unit and the price, but it was worth every penny. The battery life is incredible and it charges quickly. We had used another battery previously and this one blows it away.

Works, but seems damaged my trucks 12 vdc outlets.

Bought the battery to be able to keep my cfx 25 powered overnight and put a barrier between that unit and my vehicles battery. Worked for that purpose yet now both of my 12 vdc power outlets are fried, and it would cost almost $2K to repair. Had no issues prior to this with my 2022 Nissan truck power, so I suspect it has to be this unit that caused it. Now I have no 12 vdc outlets and am using a Goal Zero yeti for power, and to recharge this unit, and am waitimg to see if its going to burn that up too. May of course be due to cheap components on the truck side, but the 12 vdc plug does get extremely warm. Will be taking the truck apart myself to confirm the damage and ensure it isn't a cash grab attempt by the dealership, I'm an electronics technician by trade, but in any case the issue didn't exist before charging the battery with my truck so I have a concern at least.

Does it's specific job well enough

I've had this unit about 9 months now. It lives in the back of my grand Cherokee down here in SWFL. I turn on my cfx40 dometic fridge for the weekend and the family uses it for drinks and snacks. During the hot summer here the vehicle interior gets up to about 110 degrees. The cooler will run about a day and a half on the pb40 power station without charging. It takes about 6 hours on the AC cord to charge it if I pay attention. ***NOTE: after charging the first 10 percent on a/c, no matter what the temp, it will fault out and start beeping (and stop charging. Unplug it and plug it back in and it will finish charging up to 100 percent. Now I'd be fine with this unit if I hadn't bought the ecoflow river pro at the same time. So much more versatile with built in inverter and solar panel controller. And it recharges in an hour on a/c (with no drama). That being said, the dometic unit is smaller and more efficient. It does it's job ok. But I won't buy it again when it wears out.

PLB Beast Mode! (DC cord issue resolution)

It's a simple unit, but very powerful and effective. We've run our CFX3 45 Powered Cooler for over 2 days without a charge. We also bought the CFX3 45 cooler and protective cover, the Faucet & Jug, and Hard Cases, and they are all great. I do wish it had an AC out to plug in string lights and other items w 120v AC cords, and not having any input data will be annoying if/when I end up hooking up Solar panels to charge it. We did have some trouble with our DC cord, and CS sent a replacement after we read a few reports of people having an issue with theirs. We ended up replacing just the tip of the cord (unscrewing the tip like you do to access the 2-pin DC), and that fixed it, so clearly that was the problem.

Excellent power management and iOS app

I did a lot of research on overlanding batteries. I guess I could have cobbled something tog ether using what's out there on the market. But this battery is built with all that I would ever want, already included. It keeps my CFX3 35 going for almost four days if I don't start my Jeep. I tend to move around every 1-2 days, so the battery is always chugging along. It keeps the fridge cool, and it also provides light to my roof top tent, and charges my USB devices (laptop, iPad, iPhone, etc.). I higely recommend this battery. The only improvement I would suggest is to provide a mounting bracket, so it can be secured, as most of us are going over rough terrain. With that said, a couple bungie cords did the trick.

Have great hopes for this battery.

I have two Dometic coolers that I take to Maine on vacation. One I use for the frozen foods the other I use to keep food/drinks cold. One is a CFX28 and the other is a CFX65DZ. What I like is that I can use both to cool or freeze or split the CFX65DZ into part freeze/part cool. As we tend to use the cooler more going to Maine and the freezer coming home, this gives us unmatched versatility. As we usually stay at another place before Maine, I had been hauling the coolers into the room and plugging them into the A/C outlets to keep items cool or frozen; much easier than unpacking/repacking the coolers and most refrigerators are too small. However, the CFX65DZ does get heavy to lift and lug especially if we have to stay upstairs. So last year I tried using a Rescue 2100 portable power pack which weighs in at over 37 lbs. to keep the coolers running in the minivan overnight. The procedure was stop at the motel, unplug the coolers from the car system, plug them into the battery pack, then reverse the procedure in the morning. Although it has dual 12v 22 AH AGM Batteries, it barely provided enough power for both coolers through the night. I stumbled across a review of portable power supplies on YouTube and one was the Dometic PLB40 which got very positive reviews; other reviews were also encouraging. I found the Dometic video about the battery pack and was again impressed by it's versatility. The feature that would be most helpful for me was that I would be able to leave the PLB40 plugged into the van's 12v outlet and the coolers plugged into the battery pack and I could charge the battery pack while it was suppling power to the coolers and continue to supply power after the van power was shut off. This will eliminate the ritual of unplugging/plugging cords into the Rescue 2100 and then the van's power supply which became annoying if we wanted to stop for a few hours to hike. As the PLB40 is only a 40 AH battery vs the 44AH power supply, I decided to do a test to see how long the battery pack would last. I plugged both coolers into the battery pack. What I didn't realize, until I watched the Dometic video, was that one power outlet only took a 2 pin plug (Great, where am I going to get one of those) and then the video continued and said, "All Dometic coolers are two prong plug ready; just unscrew the back of the standard DC plug." Really??? I never knew that. So I went out to my coolers, and sure enough, both plugs unscrew to reveal a two prong plug! (Go figure LOL) So now I plug both coolers into the PLB40 charged to 100%, coolers empty, with a room temperature of 77 degrees F (both coolers agreed with that starting temperature). On one plug I used a pigtail to plug in a volt meter. The small cooler was set at -6 F and the larger cooler at +34 F. Here are the results. On startup: 13.7 Volts at 100% After 5 hrs: 13.6 Volts at 59% After 16 hrs: 13.1 Volts and then the battery pack shut off slightly after. With the PLB40 lasting over 16 hrs., weighing less than half of my Rescue 2100, compact size, and ease of use I will say it has exceeded my expectations so far. I will put it to "my real world test" in a couple of months and report back.

AC and DC charging is painless. Solar? Not so much

Ive had my PLB40 for over a year now and it's been solid overall. Charging via AC from my home or inverter in the vehicle is easy. Switching to charging over DC via the 12 volt outlets are simple as well and is the primary method in which I charge it. My pain point is charging via solar. I bought a Renogy panel and coming out of the panel is a male MC4 so that means no direct connection to the Dometic. The question becomes how do I charge the PLB via this panel? The site says a variety of panels were tested but it doesn't mention specifically how and with what cables. I went to Powerwerx to design my own cable and so far, I've come up with- Left connector- MC4 Solar (female positive) Cable- 14 gauge 6ft cable Right connector- 30 AMP Anderson powerpole plug Will this setup work? If not, can someone help me determine what the correct configuration is?

Fast charging and reliable!

Great way to power the fridge. The Dometic 40 Ah Portable Lithium Battery charges pretty fast, from either 110v or my trucks dc port or my solar panels. After an evening and full night of running the fridge it takes less than an hour to fully re-charge the battery while driving . I have used it in the desert (Mojave-JTNP, Death Valley) on a few trips to power a Dometic CFX45 cooler and am getting about 40-42 hours use on a single charge. To help get more hours out of the battery I have been keeping it in the shade and have cut a piece of reflective insulation to fit inside the fridge, it lays on top of the food compartment. Expensive battery but worth it for the ease of use and reliability!

Got the job done

We have this paired up with a dometic powered cooler. Charging from either a solar panel or 12 v. Solar keeps battery fully charged while running the cooler. While in transport it is charging from vehicle 12 v and cooler plugged into battery. Having it also charge phones, tablets, and speakers in a bonus.

A Must Have Accessory for the Powered Cooler

The PLB40 works great for powering my CFX3 45 cooler as I can go several days without bringing my solar panels for a lighter load or stay out for over a week with connecting the PLB40 to my solar panels to keep it charged. The PLB40 is also nice to have to charge electronics like my kids' tablets when we are out camping.

Tons of Power!

This thing is a lifesaver. It's super easy to use with intuitive controls and display. It easily kept my CFX35 running for days in some high temps and managed to also charge our phones a few times before needing some juice. For extended trips where power isn't' always available this thing is a must.

Pretty good, but questions on Solar charging

The faq says "We recommend using a solar panel with output between 8-25V DC and no greater than 180W". I'd like to buy a bigger panel (knowing it's wasted for this application, but I don't want to have to buy again in the future if I pursue another battery solution). Is there any harm done charging this on 200+W panel, or is the recommendation simply on the fact that such a panel would be overkill?

Great compact battery - not comprehensive

Love my PLB - it's not as comprehensive as other battery banks but it performs well. Using solar is not obvious as you don't get an input reading. The big flaw is the 12vdc 2 pin output - I cannot find any plugs in the USA to fit this - as a result it is completely redundant and I only use the standard cigarette type output and the USB's. I have a Dometic fridge which is permanently plugged into to the standard 12v cigarette style output which means I can't use any other non-usb devices. Please please Dometic - please provide a plug or change the output to a standard socket otherwise I may have to replace the PLB for a Goal Zero or Jackary....

Almost Perfect!

By Elise

We use two of these in our converted van and they power everything (lights, fan, refrigerator, and electronics). We paired them with a couple of Renogy solar panels and they work super well! One con is that we have to unplug them every night as they will beep for about ten minutes to let you know that they are no longer receiving power from the solar panels. Not the worst thing ever and they stop beeping on their own after a few minutes, just wish they didn't do that.

Weekend worth of power

By Ourhomeonwheels2

Game changer. Charge it at home before leaving, in the car while headed out/on a long roadtrip. Lasts the whole weekend for our CFX-35. We keep the fridge plugged in on the cars 12v power while driving and keep this battery topped off from the same. Once we're to our camping spot, we unplug the fridge, pop it into this battery and turn it on and literally forget about it. There's a nice digital display with battery readout but we honestly don't even look at it because it just keeps it running...
