A solid blade, I purchased it because it fit in my 32 liter pack, and was pleased to find it also fours in my 18 litre pack. The handle telescopes into the blade, so assembly is fast. And the blade is ample to get the job done.

I wanted something for light touring that fit in my backpack and was ready for instant use if needed. The way the handle slides in and out of the shovel balde keeps the tool ready and compact.

Awesome little shovel, compact, quick to deploy and very sturdy. I do not shy away from scrapping and hitting it against ice. It's small, but effective. Should last a lifetime.

I always had trouble fitting my BD shovel in my BD Outlaw backpack...I switched to the smaller Deploy and it makes all the difference!

I bought this shovel for its quick deployment. When seconds count this shovel shines. I keep one in my BC kit and also in a smaller resort BC pack. It dug out snow machines, tourists cars, and more. It's a great tool. Thanks BD.

This is a nice, compact, sturdy shovel, lightweight too. Very well built, able to move a decent amount of snow quickly. I really love that the handle stays with the blade, so that you dont spend time trying to fish both parts and connecting the two together. I wish the handle were a bit longer, suppose that's what saves the weight, reasonable sacrifice.

Hands down the best snow shovel out there for back country adventures. This shovel can move a serious amount of snow in a hurry, packs down well, and is incredibly light and durable.

Snow pits are far too easy for this shovel, so I decided to use it to dig my Jeep out of the snow on a recent dawn patrol gone wrong. My ski partner and I used this shovel for five hours of nonstop digging in the most God-awful icy crust you have ever encountered. There were sections we had to chop up with a hatched and dig out the chunks, no amount of kicking or hacking with the shovel could break it up. At the end of it all I casually put an almost new looking Black Diamond shovel back in my pack, ready for the next any pit or Jeep extraction. I should never have to replace this shovel, but if I do I'll gladdly buy another one.

Not the biggest shovel and won't move a lot of snow fast... but it is exactly what I was looking for; sturdy, well constructed, will stand up to a beating, compact, and light. I have it strapped to the back of my snowmobile and it is a perfect fit. I am able to get at it quickly and begin shoveling without wasting time. This is my second Black Diamond shovel and I am once again very happy with their products!

This Deploy 3 shovel works great. Stows away super duper uber small. The only reason I give 4 stars is because, and I knew when purchased, that it is really small! I purchased because my Mammut RAS airbag pack and other packs I considered (BD, BCA, etc. have very small shovel locations and I am tired of having to store my handle and blade separate or in a different backpack areas. The deploy stays together and handy for snow stability work, digging out the yurt, our clearing a spot for lunch. Just takes longer because the Deploy 3 is little.

This shove is the only one that I have found that will fit inside my Mammut RAS avalanche airbag. The design is compact and well made. It works so well that purchased another Deploy shovel to go on my sons pack.
