A fine tent for the money

After 15 nights in various areas, tent fine in light rain, wind, snow, and high temperatures. The fourth star, an extra, is for the value (low cost). Given the size of the tent it is not the easiest to set up but not too bad with two people. For some reason I thought that fewer poles would make the set up go faster but for some reason I think I had it backwards. Would fewer and shorter poles be faster/easier? I don't know. Had I realized that the tent poles had to be fed through sleeves I might have avoided this tent. The sleeves make it hard if not impossible to set up or take down the tent after setting up the fly on the footprint which is one technique I have used in the rain. Also, I lost an older tent when the poles poked through the sleeve. The clip that holds the fly door open works poorly. It is similar to the one on the Big Agnes Copper Spur. I would have thought that on a heavier tent they could do better.

Game Changer for Bike Touring

I know this tent is sold as a "car camping" tent, but I recently used it for bike touring with 2 people, and it has been a real game changer! It's definitely heavy for carrying on a bike - but being able to stand up inside was awesome. Also, with two people, we can bring the bikes inside. Having so much extra space also means that we can be a little more careless with site selection... If there aren't two level sleeping spots side-by-side? No problem, just adjust your sleeping position inside for both people - not necessarily side by side. The poles are very strong and large diameter - they make up the heaviest part of the tent, but it was robust while camping on ridges in the wind. I will add that by having this larger tent, when the wind DID blow, the sides of the tent would not touch the sleeping bag like they do in my smaller tent. This meant less disturbances while sleeping. Also, when it rains, you can stay away from the sides of the tent - which often get wet and transfer moisture to the sleeping bag in the smaller tents. As far as design is concerned, it's not the most attractive tent, but I do like that the doors can be held with a single stake. I can't believe it, but the tent goes up ALMOST as fast as my Fly Creek UL3 (and comes down just as fast as the Fly Creek). We like being able to hang stuff from the ceiling to dry - even heavier items. The way the doors zip ins't the best for getting in and out - I would have liked to have had double zippers on both ends of both doors. Also, there seem to be a shortage of pockets. More pockets would not have added much weight - and there is certainly room for them. The included stakes are absolutely worthless - what is the string for? They bend easily, and the anodizing scratches off on first use. Overall, supremely happy with the tent.

This Product Is Amazing!

I set this product up in my front yard and it was easy as pie. The zippers flow smoothly with the opening and closing of the doors. Set up time was about 15 minutes. The tent poles/tent frame was easy to construct. I also want to comment that with other Big Agnes tents that I have owed, they live up to their warranty policies.

Hands down the best tent I've ever owned

Quick easy set up/take down and made with quality materials. Wishing I had switched to BA sooner.

Good quality materials, but ...

I have used this tent twice. I prefer the color to the Big Agnes Bunkhouse 4. I was quite impressed with the stitching and care in construction of the Bunkhouse 4, but the Spicer Peak 4 appears to have worse quality stitching. The seams don't appear as straight, and there is bunching along the seams. I haven't experienced either high wind or heavy rain yet in the Spicer Peak to know if the apparent lower quality construction makes a difference in performance.

Almost perfect

This is a very sturdy tent, surprisingly so. It held up to winds on national seashores (with sand/snow stakes on all tie out lines) and the rainfly holds up well. You can feel the strong winds but no stakes were pulled up. And no damage taken from curious wildlife scratching and pushing against it. I haven't had any condensation fall on me. The tent stays warms. Storage space is great and the ability to add more is nice. The gear lofts don't quite fit and need additional line. I recommend the Gossamer Gear gear shelf, which just fits. Head room is good, though. And it's nice that the inner tent has high enough sides where you can stand and change with relative humidity privacy. It fits 2 cots easily with space to walk between them. The only things I would change is giving it some vents and larger vestibules. It gets stuffy fast and I'm surprised it doesn't already come with vents. The vestibule size is just a personal preference. I hope an accessory will be made in the future. The color is nice, too. It's more green toned than in the product images.
