I'm 6'2" and don't feel cramped, even with much of my gear inside. I've logged 15 nights in my Copper Spur UL1, including nonstop rain on Mt Hood and 30kt winds on the Lost Coast with no regrets.

I've used the Copper Spur HV UL1 tent for the past four years-hundreds of nights and thousands of miles-in every kind of weather imaginable. It's traveled with me from the southern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail up into Tahoe on the Tahoe Rim Trail and back and forth along the JMT. I've camped in rain, wind, and snowstorms, and this tent has always kept me cozy, warm, and dry. The porch option is a game changer during storms, letting me cook from inside without worrying about melting the fabric or burning the tent down. I love the gear loft for tossing in my rain gear and hat, and the side pockets are perfect for keeping my glasses, Kula cloth, and headlamp within easy reach. When I reached out to Big Agnes about some zipper repairs, they immediately recognized a warranty issue and sent me a brand-new tent-no hassle at all. Without question, this tent has outperformed every other one I've owned.

I bought this for the PCT in 2018 and have put nearly 4000 miles on it. I've had to restring it and replace a few poles after about 5 years, but BA customer service was great for that. I just wish it came in Dyneema to be completely waterproof.

After years of backpacking through unpredictable weather and rugged terrain, I've learned that not all tents are created equal - but this one continues to earn its spot in my pack. From the first setup, it's clear this tent was designed with serious thought. The materials feel premium, the setup is intuitive, and every detail - from the reinforced seams to the smooth zippers - speaks to durability. What really seals it, though, is longevity. Season after season, it still performs like new. No sagging poles, no leaky nights, no regrets. Whether it's a quick weekend trek or a week deep in the backcountry, this tent handles it all with quiet confidence. It's not just built to impress - it's proven to endure.

I bought an earlier version of this tent in 2017 for my thru-hike attempt of the Arizona Trial (injured, section hiking now). It was my first lightweight tent and has served me well. I jokingly call it my "coffin" because it's pretty "cozy" in size, but roomy enough. I especially appreciate the freestanding style in the rock-hard desert terrain. I'm thinking of getting the 2 person copper spur as an upgrade...because I'm worth it!

I have been using this tent for the last 6 backpack trips. It has worked well in rain storms. I broke the poles on my Wind River Range trip in August. I sent them to Big Agnes to get repaired. I paid a small fee and just received the repaired poles. I plan to do another backpack trip soon on the northern California coast to test them out. I like the light weight, easy set up, and comfortability of the tent. There is a two person version that some people use as a single person, but I am comfortable with the one person tent.

I owned many 1 person tents, but the Copper Spur is my favorite. It only takes minutes to set up, offers plenty of interior sleeves for gear, and ample room for my 6' tall and XL frame. Although it withstands wind and keeps you dry during rain, the rain fly zippers tend to snag in fly material. That aside, it fits well in my 58L pack, only weighs 2.5lbs, and is excellent for several miles into the Beartooth Mountains.

Took this tent on several prep outings and then with my daughter's Scout Troop on a 12-Day Trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. I had a different 1P tent before this and liked it, but shaving off weight for such a long backpacking trek was of high importance. I'd seen this tent recommended by other Scouters and decided to give it a shot. SO glad I did. I love the internal gear lofts, they really helped me keep my gear organized. The single-pole system and color-coded ends makes set-up a breeze, which is key when you're taking it down and setting it back up every day! We had a few days with some hard rain, but it dried out quickly once the sun came out. It held up to some pretty steady winds and even hail with no problems. I'm 5'7" and have plenty of room for my sleeping pad, sleeping bag, and gear. In a pinch, I can stow my backpack at the foot of the tent, but as the tent narrows to the feet, it is a tight fit. Generally, I'd only do that if the weather was going to be awful overnight and I was worried about my pack. If you prefer to store all of your gear in your tent, I'd size up to the 2P tent for the extra room. For backpacking, this is definitely my go-to and I'll recommend it to anyone!

This tent has seen only one night in the outdoors so far, but it performed well and is super light. I like the new stuff sack and the caps that attach the rainfly to the cross bar: these are meaningful improvements over earlier versions of this tent. I should note that this tent was a replacement under warranty for a tent that had minor seam-seal failures that I might have just fixed with seam sealant had not BA offered to make my life easier.

Perfect! Exactly what I wanted. Lightweight durable, and functional. This tent will definitely lighten my load for this 65-year old hiker/backpacker to enjoy more years of backcountry adventures.

Care Instructions
Storage
Always make sure your tent is dry and free of debris before storing. Fold and roll your tent a different way each time to avoid permanent creases. Store in a cool, dry place. Never leave your tent in hot temperatures (such as a car trunk or attic space) for long periods of time, as it will damage the material coatings. Storing your tent damp can result in mildew growth, which may cause your tent to smell, leak, or delaminate. Mildew damage is not covered under warranty.
Cleaning
For light cleaning, sponge the product with warm water (not hot).
For more thorough cleaning you will need
Wash basin (or bath tub)-Warm water (not hot)
Waterproof Gear Cleaner (Big Agnes recommend products like Nikwax Tech Wash)
Sponge
Submerge your gear in warm, clean water. Gently agitate with hands. Empty dirty water. Repeat until most of the excess dirt/grime is removed and water is mostly clear
Apply waterproof gear specific wash and gently work into fabric with sponge
Rinse gear thoroughly
Hang it up to dry
Triple check that your gear is completely dry before storage or use
Do not dry clean or machine-wash. Detergents and dry cleaning solvents will damage the fabric and ruin waterproofing
Never use hot water, bleach, liquid detergents, or dishwashing liquids
Allow to dry COMPLETELY before storage or use
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight as UV exposure can compromise waterproofing
Seam Sealing
Big Agnes tents are seam sealed as part of their manufacturing process! This seam tape alone is durable enough to prevent water leakage. Any seams that have been taped do not need to be seam sealed with a liquid sealer unless you want extra protection. Make sure the seam-sealer is completely dry before re-packing your tent. Damage caused by misapplication may void warranty.
Zippers
Keeping your zippers clean will help keep the coils and sliders from wearing out. If filled with dirt, vacuum or brush zippers before storing tent. Big Agnes recommend Gear Aid Zipper Cleaner and Lubricant.
