My wife and I use this tent for our motorcycle trips. We both have hard luggage, and the large vestibule is perfect for stashing the dirty panniers, while still keeping them accessible when you're in the tent.

Big agnes is missing out on a huge market with this tent -- the boating community. Most tent poles are very awkward to put into a drybag, but the bikepack edition (with the shorter poles) of the blacktail hotel 3 is the perfect size to be put into a drybag. Here in Alaska, drysuits are must for most of the year... having a sturdy tent to toss a drysuit over to let it dry is kinda nice. Most tents are too flimsy to be able to hold the extra weight of a drysuit draped over it but this tent had no problems supporting 2 bulky drysuits. The ~hammock-pocket setup is pretty nice to hold gear to let it air out plus there are plenty of loopies inside the tent to suspend a closeline to.

Bought to take on scout trips as an assistant scoutmaster, the size is great, room to spread out both inside and in the larger vestibule which was fantastic for my first trip where it rained the whole weekend

I've only used it twice but in both instances, this tent has been fantastic. Both uses have been without the rainfly, I love that the tent can be used without being staked down (providing wind is low). We got the three because it fits two people comfortably and space wasn't an issue. I do wish there was an option to buy the rainfly for the Blacktail 3 as I'd love to have both depending on the need (I don't always need the hotel).

The vestibule is the greatest thing when you have to doff raingear or muddy boots. The footprint, if you buy the Hotel footprint, extends all the way out into the vestibule - it's amazing. I took two small children and it rained for 7 hours one evening - everything was perfectly dry and very well ventilated. The tent is easy to set up - 2 cross-poles, one over the top (pull with the finger loops to get the ends into place, and one for the vestibule). This makes backcountry camping with kids super easy.

Set up in backyard and some difficulty with the hotel portion. Thought the pole to shape that area was going to snap. It survived. Also kinda expected the ground footprint to extend through the hotel portion. Materials seems high quality and sleeping area appears a bit larger than my Copper Spur XL 3 person.

Care Instructions
Storage
Always make sure your tent is dry and free of debris before storing. Fold and roll your tent a different way each time to avoid permanent creases. Store in a cool, dry place. Never leave your tent in hot temperatures (such as a car trunk or attic space) for long periods of time, as it will damage the material coatings. Storing your tent damp can result in mildew growth, which may cause your tent to smell, leak, or delaminate. Mildew damage is not covered under warranty.
Cleaning
For light cleaning, sponge the product with warm water (not hot).
For more thorough cleaning you will need
Wash basin (or bath tub)-Warm water (not hot)
Waterproof Gear Cleaner (Big Agnes recommend products like Nikwax Tech Wash)
Sponge
Submerge your gear in warm, clean water. Gently agitate with hands. Empty dirty water. Repeat until most of the excess dirt/grime is removed and water is mostly clear
Apply waterproof gear specific wash and gently work into fabric with sponge
Rinse gear thoroughly
Hang it up to dry
Triple check that your gear is completely dry before storage or use
Do not dry clean or machine-wash. Detergents and dry cleaning solvents will damage the fabric and ruin waterproofing
Never use hot water, bleach, liquid detergents, or dishwashing liquids
Allow to dry COMPLETELY before storage or use
Avoid prolonged direct sunlight as UV exposure can compromise waterproofing
Seam Sealing
Big Agnes tents are seam sealed as part of their manufacturing process! This seam tape alone is durable enough to prevent water leakage. Any seams that have been taped do not need to be seam sealed with a liquid sealer unless you want extra protection. Make sure the seam-sealer is completely dry before re-packing your tent. Damage caused by misapplication may void warranty.
Zippers
Keeping your zippers clean will help keep the coils and sliders from wearing out. If filled with dirt, vacuum or brush zippers before storing tent. Big Agnes recommend Gear Aid Zipper Cleaner and Lubricant.
