Like shoulder straps & hip belt so well we bought 2

The 115-ltr Pro Pack is our Favorite BWCAW pack, we own two. Our gear pack purchased in 2008 weighs 49-lb loaded and our kitchen pack purchased in 2016 weighs 42-lb loaded. They get used on three to five canoe trips to the BWCAW each year and allow us to cross the portages in one trip. These heavy duty dry packs have my vote, we really like the shoulder straps and hip belt of the Pro Pack.

It's pretty good except for the buckles

I use it for canoe tripping. As another reviewer has said, the buckles on the shoulder straps are a real WEAKNESS. I ended up using wire and gorilla tape on them as I got really tired of having the buckles let go when putting the pack on or when I placed any strain on the shoulder straps. Apart from that the bag gives me peace of mind knowing it'll keep my gear dry.

Yes, this is a great bag!

This pack worked great for me last September in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. If you chose the load right, you can maximize the space. I never had an issue with pack on over 20 portages with a full pack. It worked great, especially for someone who is more used to Western Rivers's where the portages are comparatively few. Thanks for your great products - and yes Im a fan from Oregon. ;)

I would buy again if.......

I have the big yellow 120L portage pro bag (I have affectionately called "Big Bird") and I love how much stuff you can fit in it. my one BIG complaint about the pack is that I wish it had a hard back like most excursion backpacks do. I feel like if the pack had that feature then it would be even more comfortable and just faster to pack. Instead of having to strategize what goes where in the pack for optimal comfort, a hard back could solve that. Like I said I do LOVE the pack and would buy another!

Great BWCA pack!

I also have the 70L black canyon pack but find myself using this one more as it holds a ton of gear. This is a outstanding canoe pack- extremely roomy with space for all your gear. The padding is comfortable and allows you to put clothes at the top for easy reach rather than as back padding on the other packs. I've dunked mine a few times now and everything stayed dry. Very durable it has held up great over some really rough portages. The downsides are it is more time consuming to open and close than a normal backpack and it is so cavernous and tall that you either spend a lot of time digging around in it or dumping everything out to find things.

Not a backpacking pack, buckles failed on second day, great for wet conditions.

**Our trip with this pack: 9 day canoe camping trip in Algonquin provincial park: 100 miles total: 18 miles portaging with pack** Really neat pack. It never went into the water; but, with all of our canoeing in the rain and portaging miles, it never leaked and our gear remained dry. There isn't really any convenient way to have easy access to anything. Just a few hooks on the outside which we hung our rather annoying swinging water bottles from. Packing it wasn't very easy, as it is so tall and doesn't fold open much. Our pack weight at the start of the trip was 70lbs. It was as comfortable as 70lbs can be on your back. By the end of the trip we lost about 30lbs of food weight and the pack became very comfortable to wear. The padded hip belt is really a must if you need to portage for anything longer than a 1000 meters. The buckles which attached the shoulder straps failed on both sides. Most likely from the weight. We were very disappointed as it was brand new and we were in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. It was a simple fix with a few small twigs between the pinch grabs on the buckle; however, the fix should not have been necessary. Needs more heavy duty parts. Adjusted nicely for both my partner and I. Overall, a pretty good portage pack. I wouldn't use it for anything other than canoe camping though. Not a backpacking pack. Needs to be packed very carefuly. Material was easy to clean.

great bag

I do not normally do reviews, but my first earlier model of same bag did dozens of weeklong wilderness canoe trips and lots of weekend river trips. Outfitter ripped out a shoulder strap, so I decided to get a new bag. I could have repaired.

Great pack except...

Love this pack. Carries everything you have with ease. Great buy. Except no outer pockets so I had to attach a kayak deck bag to it with biners.also is there patches for these things ? I went through some bush a of course I got a thorn in the side. My fault it shouldn't be trekking thru such heavy bush.

Outstanding pack

Several of us own these packs. They have been on numerous trips to the BWCA and they keep your stuff dry. Very durable and can take abuse. The Cascade Designs also stands behind their products. Their customer service is second to none!

Amazing back support and indestructible

We are not kind to our gear, and this bag has survived 6 summers with no sign of wear. The suspension system is fantastic for any portage, it gets thrown into and out of canoes (quite literally) and there's no sign of the straps giving in anyway. It's great to know that all our gear will be dry at the end of the day too. Probably the best investment we've made in our canoe experience, hands down.

Great River Pack

I have 4 trips with this pack. One of which was a white water week in Algonquin Park (Ontario Canada). I literally had this pack floating in the river for over an hour while we rescued other canoes. Not a drop of water entered and kept sleeping bags, clothes and tents dry for 4 people. As good as any barrel I've used and more comfortable to carry. It holds a lot of gear and would appear to be super tough and well made. Make sure you learn the proper way to close this pack and you wont have any problems.

Great Pack

I sold two Duluth packs I had for ten years to buy these packs. For solo canoeing there is nothing better.

This is a top notch quality item. It is made from heavy duty materials, well equipped with key features for complete waterproofing yet comfortable to carry, and all this at a great value price.

Great Price, Great Pack

I've used SealLine drybags on previous canoe trips, but always rented them from an outfitter. I'm planning on using this on an upcoming trip to the BWCA and it is great. The new harness is super comfortable and will help on long portages (i tested it this weekend by wearing around my yard) and the pack was larger than I expected. Great quality pack for the price.
