I have bought two pairs of these gloves. I use them for everything from keeping my fingers warm on fall hike, biking to work on a cool or rainy day, walking around town, or for skiing when it isn't too cold. Both times I purchased these glove I bought a pair in medium. They were a bit snug to start. After a short break-in period they stretch out to fit my hands perfectly. So far wear/ damage has not been an issue. Ultimately I like these glove because they simple in design and appearance, they allow for good motion and dexterity, and they are warm enough for most of conditions.

This is the second Marmot Basic Work Gloves I purchased. The first pair was used mostly for snowshoeing. They worked great for gripping a pair of treking poles during winter wilderness snowshoeing. But when I used them for log splitting, they quickly tore up. Loyal to marmot, I recently bought a new pair. The last couple of days I've been using them for laying a paver sidewalk and for installing a lawn irrigation system. The gloves required contact with concrete pavers, the ground, and hand tools. Well, these gloves failed in 2.5 work days. The gloves tore at the fingertips, quickly rendering them completely useless. I won't buy again. They just can't withstand tough jobs. Best for casual wear or dress gloves.

I don't understand the other reviewer who gave it three stars because the glove didn't do what he, mistakenly, thought it was supposed to do? It's like giving them a lousy rating because you can't use them to pick up hot coals, because, you admit, they are not meant for that. If he is in the military/law enforcement then I mean no disrespect and I appreciate his service and brotherhood. But don't bury a product because you wanted it to be something it never set out to be. These are fantastic all around work gloves. I use them for lugging wood in from outside. I can then can grab a shovel and clean off the deck and even pull my 2 year old daughter around in her sled. I wouldn't use them to ski Tuckermans or build a snow man but that is not their target utility. They are a good glove to grab when you need something that handles a lot while remembering they don't handle everything.

The leather is pretty stiff. Not entirely unexpected for a work glove. I was just thinking because it was Marmot, I might be able to use it as a lightweight regular winter glove. They are not good for that.
