Great tent for the price. Lacking some basic necessities

The tent does not include a foot print. Not sure if any of the Kelty tents include one however. Maybe this is a trend that tent companies are doing now or I've just missed the reasoning for it. Along with that is the tent does not include a gear net. There are the loops to attach one yet it is not a part of whats in the box. Other than that, the tent is very easy to set up and take down. The clips Kelty has "designed" to attach to the tent poles are easy to use and strong. We got the 4 person for us and our dogs and it fits us and our backpacks just fine. with a couple square feet to spare. Minus the lack of a foot print and gear net this tent has exceeded our needs and desire. Its light and roomy. Well done.

Awesome tent!

It took us about three minutes to set up, one minute to disassemble and kept us warm on a 36 degree night. We are so thrilled to have this tent and can't wait to go camping again!

for Jim re:Interior Height

First of all, this is a great tent. Period. Secondly, for Jim who said he's "not buying any tent that don't list the interior height..!!" Well Jim, obviously size matters, you just can't find it. Measurements, including the interior height are found in the 'Specifications' tab which reads "Tent Dimensions: 99 x 80 x 56 in / 251 x 203 x 142 cm". This tent is 56"H at it's center height. Yeehaw! Order that tent, Jim! Adventure awaits! (- and so do those other 2 or 3 stars.)

First Look

I have not used this tent yet but did set it up and examine. I’m happy with the size, quality and ease of set up. Additionally I purchased this for motorcycle trips and I can pack it fairly easily on the bike. Hope to use soon

Happy so far...

I wanted a good tent that wouldn't brake the bank. With plenty of solid & happy reviews I decided on the Salida. Only gave 4 stars due to I haven't used it outdoors as of yet. Did put it up in the garage, and I'm very pleased with the ease of setup, 1 person can easily pitch this tent. Looks well built and has very sturdy tent poles.

Great tent

Love it! We updated from a 2 person tent to accommodate our backpacks and new pup.. this tent has plenty of room. Easy to setup and for a larger tent isn’t that heavy to pack for the weekend. Definitely recommend

Best tent purchase I've ever made

I love this tent. It's quick and easy to put up, not very heavy, and great for all of my scouting needs. I most often use the vestibule for just my shoes/boots, but it's just the right size for that. I get comments every time I go camping with new folks that my tent clips are awesome, and the lack of pole sleeves is a huge plus. I've put this tent up alone (I'm about 5'5") in the dark, in the rain, and in huge wind gusts near the coast. I found it's easiest to lay it all out, put in the stakes lightly and set the poles in, attach the clips at the very peak of the tent, then clip up the sides. This way you're not fighting the other pole as you attach one of them. I cannot possibly overstate how much I love this tent. That being said... You'll likely want something taller for summer camps, so that you can stand up once in a while and maybe use a cot. It also doesn't breathe as well as I'd like for the heat of summer with the rainfly on (necessary for privacy and the occasional overnight rain we get in our area). I bought it in February of 2019 on amazon, and the tent floor waterproofing started to wear off in the beginning of July after about one campout a month (I noticed it during summer camp!), and then started to really take on water through the floor by December. I'm going to end up redoing the waterproofing on my own - I probably voided the warranty by using tenacious tape to seal up the couple of holes the tent received due to my poor placement - but other than that, this tent has been a dream. I've never gotten wet in it before now, the rainfly is still waterproof/repellent, and the seams haven't leaked at all. I would definitely buy this tent again, and am considering actually buying it again so that I have a spare, since it looks like they're not going to have this available for much longer and it's been replaced by tents that have pole sleeves.

Great size and construction with seemingly one flaw

Just bought this tent to replace my weekend camping tent which got destroyed in a wet snow storm. Overall I'm really happy with the easy setup and durable construction. Color matched clips and such may not be necessary for such a small tent but really are a nice touch to make it that much easier. I should throw in that I also purchased the matching ground cover and it is also color matched to make sure you have the orientation correct. Well done Kelty! Inside the tent has plenty of space and really is a "4 person" tent. Obviously if you are using a larger air mattress or have gear bags inside, that number will be reduced. For me it's a great weekend camp out tent for just me with all my gear inside or maybe my son too if we don't have much gear inside the tent. The down side is that the rain fly door does not open high enough to get in an out of the tent without either kneeling on the ground or rubbing the tent with your back with getting in/out. When the rain fly is fully unzipped and one side rolled up, it still covers the upper 1/3 of the tent door. This is not an issue in dry weather, but when the tent is wet from rain or dew, the it becomes really annoying. I tried rolling the rain fly door to the side or folding it over, but it then touches the tent netting at the top and water then wicks through and drips inside the tent. If it wasn't for this, I'd give the tent 5 stars. Secondly, ventilation is not great considering the full covering rain fly, but that is a trade off for reliably keeping the rain out.

Excellent all-around tent

I've had this tent for 5 years and put it through the ringer. I've used it most often for snow camping - up to the level of a 6 day trip through knee deep uptracked mountain powder in wintertime 0F Montana. In snow camping, it's important to use a footprint too (didn't come with my purchase), and even then the floor doesn't stay completely dry, but I think that's true of all tents. Speaking of dryness, it's also performed well in rain. Don't touch the walls if it's raining, but again, that's true for all tents, and easier to accomplish in a big tent. As an apartment liver, it's often hard to properly care for a tent. I don't know what kind of anti-mold treatment this tent has, but it's very good - I've put it away wet dozens of times due to limited home space for drying, and have only ever gotten a tiny bit of mold from that, which easily rubbed away on the next trip. For a tall tent, it does quite well in heavy winds - I've been in it in up to ~40mph winds on the slopes of Mt. Rainier and Mt. Baker, and never worried for its integrity (although it can get squeaky sometimes). In such winds, the poles, longer than many tent poles, never developed any bends or cracks like those in the lighter weight tents of some of my friends. It's long enough that as a 6'4" guy, I can still bring in my frozen boots and backpack and sleep with them defrosting at the foot of my pad. The attic storage is also *extremely* useful for hanging/draping wet gear to dry overnight on longer trips. I've also used it on two different occasions for a week at Burning Man, and thought the second time killed the zipper, but it gradually fixed itself on subsequent trips. The only real wear it ever took was accidentally sticking my crampon front points through the entry floor after a particularly mind-numbing summit (oops!). A few limited criticisms: -It really should have a second vestibule. But I never need to pee overnight, so I just take the inside spot. -When camping in rocky/windy environments, it's more effective to tie its lines off to rocks rather than to stake it. Some of the lines are a little short to tie around heavy enough rocks. But I fixed that with old shoelaces easily enough. -During really intense winds, drafts do get in below the extended rain flys. When it's snowy, this can result in small ice crystals swirling in the air inside the tent. But the bug netting always blocked larger ice, preventing any serious wetness getting in. Short of really serious high altitude mountaineering trips where you'd want an actual expedition tent, it has served admirably well. Unfortunately, I just lost it on an alpine expedition when my party members responsible for setting it up didn't tie it down to large enough rocks. It had blown away when we got back from our summit. I looked over current tent offerings, and decided that the best option was to buy a new Salida 4. That's as good a review as anything I've said above I think.

Great quality. Great tent, great poles, great clips that are unlike anything else. Even great stakes. Just overall very happy with this tent.

Love it!

It's giant, just like I wanted. Plenty of room for me, my husband, and our 90 lb dog. It's heavy (but I knew that before I bought it). My last Kelty tent lasted 15 years, and I have high hopes for this one!

Salida 4 Review

Bought this tent for camping in Kauai..it lived up to its reputation of keeping you dry in the fiercest of rain and wind. A bit stuffy with 2 though and tarp on. Only thing I would improve upon is the layout. With 2 pple 6 feet tall, you have to lay horizontally and not vertically...so when one person needs to exit the door, you have to crawl over the other. If the tent was longer that wider..it would be a 10

Amazing tent

My son and I used this tent on our trip through Wyoming, South Dakota and Utah this past August. While we were camping we experienced some CRAZY weather. From a massive rainstorm with extremely high winds, to overnight temps of 28° to the open skies in the mountains of Utah we experienced the extremes. This tent survived all of it and kept us safe and dry. The wind the one night was so bad the sides were almost touching the bottom of the tent. It was also extremely easy to put together and take apart. I will never use another brand!

Follow up after more than 5 years of owning both a Salida 2 and Salida 4

I wrote a review of the Salida 2 and also said I also own a Salida 4 (see Robert in 2015 in the two reviews). It is always easy to write a glowing review for something you have only had for a short time. Now that I have over 5 years with both of these tents.....I still love them....except the supplied tent stakes ;-) Both tents saw at least monthly use with Boy Scouts and family, several extended week plus trips, Of the two I like the extra room of the 4 person of course....but it also has a couple of features such as pull out rain fly on the back and sides the smaller tent doesn't have. This helps to keep it cooler and less humid inside (something we have to deal with in the Mid West along with deluge rain storms). I have had a few trips where I was the lone occupant of the 4 man for over a week and those extra head room inches are nice....still not a stand up tent but OK. One thing that was much appreciated was at a camping trip where we had the tent entirely setup and staked out....than we found out we were in the wrong camp site. I just pulled the stakes out and picked up the entire tent and attached fly and moved it a couple of blocks to the right spot. I guess that time it became a mobile home! With Boy Scout trips you always expect wear and tear.. I haven't had any broken poles, bad seams, bad zippers, tears, and not a drop of water inside. It even survived a soccer game crash when it was the accidental "goal" . And yes....I DID buy some rally good stakes so no more bent stakes. So I am still a very happy camper...

Love this tent!

I upgraded from a Salida 2 to a Salida 4 and am very pleased. The Salida 4 is much more roomy inside, so for me and my wife, we weren’t as cramped. Both the Salida 2 and 4 are great tents; the time it takes to set them up is about the same. (5 minutes or so, depending on if you put the rain fly on or attach ropes to secure it.) One thing that stood out with the Salida 4 is the attachments that go from the tent to the poles that hold it up. I liked how they “twist on” so if the tent is bumped or blows in the wind, etc. , there is no chance of the tent detaching from the poles. The Salida 4 is also taller, so that makes it feel more roomy as well. Again, all in all, great tent.

Great tent, great company

Ordered this tent in a rush for a quickly-upcoming camping trip to Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. Kelty came through with first class customer service and on-time delivery. It's good to be able to deal with a company that actually cares about their customers. The tent- Having only used it on one camping trip (3 Days) my experience with it is limited, but here's what i know so far: Quality workmanship, simple and fast set-up, and easy to get back into its storage bag, unlike other tents i've owned. Reasons i chose the Salida4: price was competitive, perfect size for my style of car-camping, aluminum poles, and full coverage fly. Thanks Kelty!

Excellent for Boundary Waters

The best feature of this tent is the full length fly. Anything less is just not suitable for wet and windy weather. Rated for 4 we have used it for 2 people and our pooch and gear with lot's of room to sit-up and even stand-up (with a slight hunch) while getting in and out of the tent. It sets up perfectly in minutes with 1 or 2 people. It's always roomy and always dry and all this for under 7 pounds. You can find short-length fly's on tents anywhere and cheaper too but this is a one-of-a-kind tent for the money. Please, never change the full-length fly on the Salida, it's the near perfect tent.

Has all the features and weight of a great all around tent. There is only one item that can be maybe offered as an option. South Texas summers will be hot with the ground level rain fly. A shorter fly that gives privacy but allows air flow would make this tent perfect........

Great Tent! Being a Boy Scout, this tent has lasted me the past couple years with not one drip of water ever leaking in the tent. No problems that I can say, which is hard having used many different types of tents in the past. I recomend this tent to everyone. Great Quality! My all time favorite tent.
