Very effective, kinda heavy and bulky but if you love coffee this is the way to go. There is a constant debate within the group I hike with between a coffee press and Starbucks instant. I still like the fresh brew least amount of process with the french press.

Bought this for the wife when we go backpacking. She has never liked the instant type coffees and really need her coffee in the morning. Well the french press works great! She said it makes the best coffee she has ever had. You do need to use a course grind coffee which means you have to buy the whole bean then either buy a bur grinder or have the store where you bought the coffee beans gring them for you.
