Great for rocky trails

I bought these tips to use with the Black Diamond Trail Compact Poles, and they worked great. I used them for four days of hiking in Isle Royale NP on very rocky trails, and they gave me great traction. The only downside was that I needed pliers to change the tips, as the wave-lock design made them difficult to loosen or tighen completely by hand.

Tips are Great, SunnySports is Better!

For the rocky terrain of RMNP I used the Black Diamond trekking pole accessory rubber tips (which slipped over my carbide tips). The idea was great as rubber was much better than carbide on the rocks, but as these only slipped over the tip, I wound up losing several in the process as they would get bound between rocks especially when descending through boulder fields. Only use those for pavement or well maintained rocky terrain (trails) in which they are perfect. These Z-pole rubber tips actually replace the carbide tips by screwing perminently into the housing. I will test them over my two-week excursion in August, but they seem very well made and I am confident they will suit my needs. The only issue I had was it was very difficult to figure out if they fit on my Contour Elliptic poles as they advertise working for the Z-pole. I finally found in fine print that they work on any 2012+ Black Diamond pole (with a few exceptions). Now the best part - I ordered three packs (pairs). One pack only contained one tip. I called SunnySports and anticipated having to argue the point. Without question and within minutes they had another pack on the way which I received in three days! They told me to just keep the lone tip as a spare. One classy operation!
