Outdoor Research Foray 3L Jacket for Men Small Black

From, "Its a little chilly in here," to Alaska in September (40° F and raining), I have found this Outdoor Research Foray 3L Rain Jacket to be exceptionally versatile. It hits all the marks of a technical rain shell (light weight, GoreTex, the hood fits over a helmet, wind breaker, etc.). With many great high-end rain jackets on the market today, one of the main reasons I landed on this one was the "Pit-Zips." Not only do the armpits have a zipper to vent unwanted body heat (sweating in cold climates can lead to hypothermia) the "Pit-Zip" zippers go all the way down the side, on both the left and right sides of the jacket. I would not only wear this on the Appalachian Trail for an epic hike through the "Whites," or on a multi-day road bicycling event in Alaska (I wish I had this Outdoor Research Jacket then... my old Colombia rain jacket left me wet and cold), but also in the Florida Everglades hunting Python in July. During this freelance Python hunt, the mosquitos were THICK to put it mildly (the worst in 40+ years according to locals) and the Foray 3L Rain Jacket served as a great way to keep the "Skeeters" from biting you through my loose fitting top without making you feel like you were wearing a trash bag over your body. Between the late evening July heat and humidity, I was comfortable. I was not baking inside the jacket. When it started raining just after catching this 11 foot Python, I was nice and dry. Thank the Lord for a great catch! I like that I am able to access my pistol quickly because the "Pit-Zips" go all the way down the sides. The "Pit-Zips" have a double zipper so that I could actually vent my armpits, as well have quick access to my "piece" (pictured). I am 6ft tall and 165 lbs with a 30 in waist. This is a LG size jacket. It wears a little large (on me), but I am excited about that because it allows me to wear many layers (2 shirts, a hoodie or puffy jacket, etc.) underneath when it gets cold, if needed. All-in-all, I don't think you will be disappointed with the Outdoor Research Foray 3L Rain Jacket because of its incredible versatility. Thanks Outdoor Research for making great gear!

Best rain jacket yet! . Durable, good movement with kits or gear underneath. Has some versatility in pockets. Also used to double up as a Snow shell for a spring Colorado Snowfall. I really like the hood, no so large that it cuts your vision off but still sheds water off your face like a hat.

I wear this jacket for everything - hiking, around town, commuting. The zip system is amazing in terms of letting me vent as much as I need on wet but hot/humid days, as well as drape the jacket over a medium sized backpack when commuting to keep it dry

Finally... A jacket that does what it says its going to do - so happy I purchased this. Excellent rain protection I experienced over 2 hours in medium rain on walk. No wet out, no leakage - water just ran off and kept me dry the whole time. Highly recommend this jacket for sure !

The new 3L Fabric is a huge improvement over the older Foray, it's robust, has just enough stretch, and overall is impressive. I was somewhat hesitant as they moved away from Gore but seeing it in person I am 100 percent a fan and it's better in every way. The only improvement, and OR please make this happen, is the branding. Make a Blacked out version without the contrasting logos, that would put this jacket as the best among the best.

I needed a jacket that would perform in a variety of extreme environments when going inside was not an option. This jacket filled this role perfectly and has kept me dry while exploring the north Maine Woods more recently while hiking through the cloud rain forest in Costa Rica. On a cool rainy day, you can keep warm with all the vents closed and a puffy underneath. While in warmer humid weather, just open the massive vents on the sides and keep dry while still being able to "breath" and stop sweat from soaking you from the inside out. It is very weight efficient, easily packed, and well cut for the active user. The chest pocket is also a favorite feature of mine to safely store a cell phone while on the move yet keeping it easily accessible.

I have last yeas version of this Jacket, 2023/24 It is by far one of the best rain coats out there. $ stars without a doubt. Would have been 5 if they would have made it packable into one of the pockets. Would I buy it again? Absolutely! You really can't go wrong with this coat.

Bought this on sale from a third party. Well constructed, smooth sealed zipper function and seemingly durably material. Have a Rab raincoat which does not have the same degree of durability. Had the opportunity to wear this in a variety of rainy conditions over the last 3 weeks. Remained dry with no wet through after 70 minutes of light to moderate steady rain. The must have chest pocket kept electronics dry throughout. I am 5'8" 152 lbs and range between small or medium depending on cut. This coat seems to a slightly fitted cut and the small fit fine with room for a base layer and either micro puff vest or jacket with still plenty of room for movement. Large vents are bidirectional. Small criticism of all rain coats of this version would be the lack of lining/light pil on the inside front of the jacket when it is fully zipped - the fabric can get a little harsh around your chin/mouth. Light weight and readily packable. Not yet sure what the DWR retreat rate will be but mfg specs suggest using Nikwax wash/treat products. To date, a nice light weight, waterproof shell. So far, 5 stars.
