A very reliable fire starter. Certainly on the more expensive side, but high quality. I noticed some people complained about not being able to use the striker efficiently. In my experience its much easier to use the back of a knife blade or saw blade on a Leatherman or SAK as the striker. It works much better.

really nice striker - the cord is great so what you done loose the two parts & the magnet holding them together is a very cleaver design. This is a little heavier then others & I feel like the 'bottle opener' could use a redesign, maybe into a can opener? That said, this is the igniter I reach for most often when packing for a trip. Highly recommended.

they claim you can use it with the MSR wind burner, but it will only light this stove about one out of 10 strikes , which is unfortunate.

This is a backup to the one I already own. Two is one and one is none!! I?ve used my first one many times and was able to ignite dried grass, wood chips and a feather stick. Another good kindle is cotton ball covered in vaseline. I like that it?s compact, lite and the striker is tethered. I used this when I went to Northern Nevada,Utah,Idaho,Montana and Wyoming. Especially came in handy in Idaho when it snowed in the middle of June!! Started many fires and also my backpack stove. This is an item I highly recommend. I have other msr equipment and been very happy with the quality of msr products. In fact I still have the alpine kitchen set since 2001. I?ve added a msr plate and cooking pan to the alpine set and all nestle together and fit in the carry sack. I also bought a msr fork, spoon and knife to take when I go backpacking, hunting and camping.

good striker, I like the extra length in the cord allows freer movement while lighting stove.

Once you get the stock coating off this little flint is amazing. And the striker magnets to the flint. Great design. Get one.

The first few strikes have to remove the coating. After that it's on you as to how much spark you get out of it. Length of string is ideal. Magnets to hold it together are nice. Though I expect things to slip apart at stick else where. Which is a nice little just in case. I'd rather it have a chance to stick to things than just fall onto the trail. A slightly longer striker flint would be nice to provide more spark with each stroke. It's so compact it wouldn't hurt.

I always have one of these with my stove. I like the way the strikers fits with the flint stick (like a spooning couple). I don't use or need matches.

This little igniter is packed with some really nice features and is super well priced compared to some of the other strike igniters on the market. Works great for starting stoves in the wind, rain, or shine.

Handy and reliable. Can be better than matches or a lighter in an adverse weather situation. Maybe not the safest near or in dry brush.

Super light, super easy to use, and most importtantly, super reliable in every weather condition I have used it on. Beats carrying around a box of matches and doesn't risk failure in the way a lighter might. just latch it on to your pack and you're ready to go.

So long as the igniter does the trick, I have no complaints. The magnetic attachment is a fun perk and helpful, in conjunction with the lanyard, to keep the pieces properly stowed, especially on 'camp surfaces' like rock and snow. Don't kick in for this product if you are looking forward to the bottle opening feature. Uncharacteristically of MSR's engineering track record, the bottle opener does not function. Also, the product image isn't accurate, so that's a bit obnoxious. ... all in all, it will light your whisperlite, pocket rocket, or finely tuned natural kindling, and that's all we can really ask for here.

i use this all the time, for lighting my camp stoves to my propane grill. then have another in my BOB bag. i use this to save my overpriced waterproof matches, to keep them sealed and new/dry. it never fails and is probablt cheaper in the long run.

MSR Strike Igniter
An item that should always be with you when camping is the MSR Strike Igniter. It is more reliable than an ordinary match or lighter. It is weatherproof. Pressure or moisture will not be a problem for this igniter. It can create 3,000 to 12,000 strikes with a spark of 5,500 F making food preparation easy. It has a built-in bottle opener, which makes it more useful during camping and at barbeques. You can carry it with very little effort, as it only weighs 1.4 oz. The MSR Strike Igniter is your solution for lighting needs.
