Review Summary

I have been a bow hunter and guide for 40 years. I have over 8 different pack-out frames. I formally used bull-pack for everything, however, the Slumber-Jack pack (s) has replaced all of my packs for the following reasons; It is so fast to load, no more ropes are hanging off everywhere, stable and easy to adjust, keeps everything tight, it is easy to hold the cape and antlers of a 350 bull and keep everything straight. This is the best product on the market for ELK, no question. Expensive, but worth it. Flaws: the nylon fabric is hard to get the odor of blood out and the straps get a little un-flexible once wet. Despite these issues, still the best pack on the market period!

The quality of this pack is amazing for the price. I've used it a couple years now for back country hunts and day hikes and I can say it works great and is very light. This is a great pack to customize for lightweight hiking. I added a topper from my ILBE pack to the top of this pack and then I clipped a couple Condor pouches to the outside of that. I then used a 80L dry back that comes with the ILBE pack(any large 60-80L dry bag will work) as the main compartment. 100% water proof, easily removable, and very lightweight. It will also hold no water moisture. I think clipped on a Condor hydration pouch on the back of it and added some straps to the lower back to clip my sleeping pad and sleeping bag onto. However the sleeping bag works better packed into the main pack and I'll clip it onto the back if I'm hauling meat out for space. I then added Creative Soltuions Silk Sling to to and the Sling hook to the other side to help carry my rifle. With a little creativity this thing can be transformed from a stripped down day pack with nothing but a hydration pouch and kill kit to a multi day backcountry backpack. It's also very comfortable under heavy load. I've had it loaded to 100+lbs and it felt fine, I did not however. I've broken one buckle but that was my fault for absolutely wrenching on it. Easy fix buying a replacement. I am 6' 225lbs for reference.

Very satisfied with pack, hauled out two large bull elk taking two quarters at a time and the pack held up.

Comfortable and well balanced with a heavy duty frame. This pack is no joke and definitely makes getting your kill out of the field a lot easier. Definitely would recommend!!

Loved your pack! I have been using a Kuiu pack for years and haven’t been happy with it hauling meat. This season I packed 1 load of Elk meat out with my KUIU, and the second with your pack and decided to sell my KUIU after the second load ! I will buy a light weight dry bag to use with your pack for my gear.loved your pack!

I had a trip for a mule deer hunt in the Black Hills of South Dakota last week, so purchased the rail hauler. It was a lifesaver. After a 280 yard shot down this draw, the buck I shot fell off a 100' cliff into a small ravine. It handled all of the meat easily. I would definitely purchase again The only thing I might add is a bit more padding on the shoulder straps. After a couple of miles with a heavy load, my shoulders did ache a bit.

I had a good experience out bow hunting in the back country with this pack. The straps are well positioned and adjustable, so it makes carrying varying loads easy. The pack frame itself is very light and seemed to distribute the weight well across my waist, chest, and back. Definitely would recommend.

I bought the older original Rail Hauler Frame Pack which is now discontinued back in 2017. Then my buddy shot a nice bull and I made 2 FULL trips feeling like over 200lbs each and the pack of course despite the weight was extremely comfortable. Made the hike a ton easier than I know it wouldn't of been if I didn't have this pack. I checked all the seams throughout the pack and NOWHERE I could find any degree of strain. Absolutely Impressed. I also packed out a few deer with it as well. Easy. It's unfortunate for others they nolonger have the original for people to buy because it was a bit cheaper with the same quality. Here are the specs of the older one. Capacity 200 lb / 90.7 kg Torso Fit Range 17.5-20.5" / 44.4-52.0 cm Dimensions 31 x 13" / 78.7 x 33.0 cm Weight 5.1 lb / 2.3 kg Something just a tad lighter. They had the 2.0 available then, but I bought the original because it was cheaper. Been a Great pack! Love it!

I have the rail hauler 1.0. This rail hauler is an excellent freighter but could have some improvements not seen in the 2.0 model. I have used this pack extensively on over 60 Alaskan big game trips from hunting caribou, dall sheep, and black bear so I feel while this is one opinion it is validated by my experiences. #1 is the shoulder straps. While most of the weight from a heavy pack should ride on the hips, with a serious amount of weight, even with the load lifters applied, there needs to be more cushioning as the pack becomes quite painful with loads exceeding 80lbs. #2 is the top cross bar. If you attempt to walk up hill this bar constantly hits you in the back of the head. I fixed this by adding foam tubing and generous amounts of 100mph tape. This also helped prevent the rifle’s barrel from constantly bouncing off the top rail. #3 There really is not a good way to strap a rifle to this rail hauler. Again, I improvised and attached an Eberlestock scabbard to the frame, which has worked for most hunting situations except walking on a down slope. Again, I wish a buttstock boot attachment would of come standard. For the money it is of good value, however, if I had to do it all over again I would have looked at other options.

Between myself, family, and friends we have 6 of these packframes and they all get used throughout hunting season. This pack frame by itself is extremely light and comfortable, more importantly it's comfortable even when loaded with a lot of weight! We have had two elk quarters on these pack frames with zero issues. The buckle/strap system is far better than using bungee cords, zip ties, or ropes. Love it!

I purchased this because a friend had one. It is the perfect size for getting around in the woods and it makes packing supplies or meat so easy.

Took it out of the box, adjusted the straps, loaded it up w about 25lbs of gear and took off on a walk about. Amazing pack, didnt need re-adjusted once. Super solid pack w almost zero movement. Added a few molle pouches for a lil storage

This pack is awesome. I’ve used it to haul out two elk so far. It carries a lot of weight and is very comfortable. I just bought another one because I like the design so much. Best haul pack I’ve ever used!!

This is nice light weight well-made and appears to have improvements over the older style. Have not loaded it yet, but put a light load in it and it carries it very well.

I purchased mine 3 yrs ago so the back opens like a butterfly. Great overall pack but mines squeaks with every step. Loud enough that as I was trying to sneak in on a bull this archery season he heard it squeak and didn't hang around for a shot. Might be okay as a straight freighter pack but was looking for a good frame pack I could archery hunt with. Sadly, this one won't cut the mustard!

I haven't loaded it down with wild game yet... But I have loaded it up with weights to get a feel for how it feels and carries. I can't wait to load it up with meat and hike out. This thing is beefy and comfortable under load.

I've used it once so far to haul a collapsible ladder in and put of an area I've had some work to do. Handled that 35-40 lbs without issue. Terrain wasn't super challenging, but pack seemed to ride well. The pack seems to adjust to oddly shaped loads really easily.

I've used most every pack out there, and this is definitely one of the best. Built extremely well, very versatile, and very comfortable. Don't waste your time and money with a cheaper pack that will just give you headaches. Just get an SJK.

I needed a meat pack that wouldn't break the bank, but last for years. Based on my use so far, I think this pack nails it for the money. There are more comfortable packs, but you'll double or triple the cost. Happy to have found the Rail Hauler pack!

4 trips, 2.5 miles each way, 2 ft of snow and every single bit of a big 'ol cow elk I get into each trip. Would not have been possible without this pack. Best hunting investment I made this year. probably ever.

Can carry as much as you'd want to pack, and then some. Im pretty sure you could lash it to a tree and use it as a tree stand or a chair

Hauled out a front and hind quarter along with the 5pt bull head and horns this archery season. Everyone else in my hunting party ordered one after seeing mine. Seems very durable and should last a lifetime!

I used this pack while hauling out an elk on a recent hunt. The load was heavy and the trek was long. This packs performance was outstanding!
