These days, a lot of emphasis is being placed on making decisions about our purchases based on necessity and how much waste is produced from the product, both of which are reasonable considerations in light of food shortages and growing landfills. Try as we may to adjust our thinking, there will always be products that produce waste — but that doesn’t mean it’s not useful. Items like aluminum cans, cardboard, paper products, plastics, glass, fabric, and candles can all be given a new life in a wide variety of ways, some of them even more useful than their original purpose! With a little imagination, time, and elbow grease, you can transform certain pieces of trash into very useful items, the least of which is camp gear. Even if waste can’t be recycled forever, it doesn’t hurt to try to stretch the life of it if at all possible.
