There is perhaps no more quintessential camp food than the ubiquitous hot dog — practically nothing is easier to cook, prepare, and eat! But if the plain ol’ ketchup and mustard drill has you singing the hot dog blues, you’re in luck. We here at SunnyScope have all kinds of tasty hot dog recipes, about 5 to be exact!

1. The Bacon Cheese Dog
Make a lengthwise cut into a raw hot dog, but don’t extend the cut all the way to each end. Stuff some shredded cheddar or pepper jack cheese into the cut. Take a piece of raw bacon, and wrap it around the hot dog so that it covers the entire thing. Spear each end of the hot dog with a toothpick to hold the bacon in place — the tightly wrapped bacon will hold the hot dog closed. Now put the hot dog on your roasting prong or stick so that it is perpendicular to the stick, like a T. Roast over the flames, turning carefully until the bacon is cooked evenly. When it’s done, slide it off into a freshly toasted bun. This dog is delicious even without condiments, but we’ll leave that up to you.
2. The Mexican Dog
Prepare the hot dog the same way as the Bacon Cheese Dog, but without the bacon. In the bun, place a lettuce leaf, chopped or sliced jalapenos, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, or anything else you would put in a taco. When your hot dog is ready, slide into the prepared bun and top with guacamole and your favorite salsa. Ole!
3. The Reuben Dog
Roast your hot dog as you would normally. Prepare the bun by placing a slice of Swiss cheese inside, followed by a healthy mound of sauerkraut. Place the hot dog in the bun when it’s finished, and top with Thousand Island dressing. You could add slices of corned beef to this to make it even meatier, or sliced turkey if you’re feeling more Rachel than Reuben!

4. The Tart n’ Crunchy Dog
This is about as easy as it gets. Line your hot dog bun with crunchy pickle slices (we like the bread and butter kind for this one), and then crush up your favorite potato chips on top of the pickles. When your hot dog is done roasting, place it on top of the crunchy goods and top with mayo and yellow mustard.
5. The Italian Dog
Slice your hot dog from end to end, just like the Bacon Cheese Dog and the Mexican Dog. Stuff the opening with shredded mozzarella, and spear closed with toothpicks. Roast it on your stick like a T. After you’ve toasted your bun, layer some slices of pepperoni, prosciutto, Canadian bacon, or other favorite Italian meat. After you put the hot dog in the bun, top with marinara and chopped onions, peppers, or olives for a savory Italian taste.
