Camp Dakota
Located about an hour east of Portland, this popular campground features many fun activities for families to enjoy. Paintballing, zip-lining and rock climbing are just a few of the recreational activities that are available for visitors to try. Guests also have the option of camping in a tent, RV or cabin.
Eagle Creek
This campground can be found in the scenic Columbia River Gorge in the Eagle Creek Recreation Area. People who have smaller RVs are welcome to camp here, but camping in a tent is the best way to fully enjoy the experience. Campers can explore the nearby area to see beautiful waterfalls as well as some of the local wildlife inhabitants.
Ainsworth State Park
Situated less than 40 miles from downtown Portland, this park features a total of 43 different campgrounds to choose from. Full hook-ups are available for RVs. Exciting activities to enjoy include biking, swimming and windsurfing. The iconic Multnomah Falls can also be easily accessed from many of the local campgrounds.
Champoeg State Heritage Area
Paved hiking trails and ideal picnic areas are what make this location one of the best places to camp near Portland, Oregon. This year-round campground features group tent and group RV camping spots. Visitors who would like to try their luck at fishing can use the campground’s fishing dock. An amphitheater stages musical performances during the summer months.
Barton Park
The campgrounds at this state park are perfect for RV camping. The Clackamas River, which runs through the park, provides the perfect opportunities for swimming and fishing. A playground, softball field and four volleyball courts can additionally be used. Guests even have access to picnic areas and fire pits.
