Montana’s Glacier National Park contains more than 730 miles of hiking trails, each one offering something different than the last. Hikers of all experience levels are accommodated here, and be it a day hike or a backcountry experience you’re looking for, you’re sure to find it within this massive park. If you’re not sure where to begin, a popular choice among locals and visitors alike is Avalanche Creek. Here you will find a forest of old-growth cedars and hemlocks, more often seen along coastal regions than this far inland. Two of the park’s most popular trails take you along Avalanche Creek through the old-growth forest, a diverse array of flora, and spectacular bird watching as you make your way to Avalanche Lake. There’s even a shuttle service that stops regularly at Avalanche Creek and other places in the park that runs free July 1- September 3!
