The Pacific Northwest of the United States is known by many as an outdoor wonderland with rivers, forests and mountains within a reasonably short distance from even the largest metropolitan areas.

Portland Oregon is one such metropolitan area fortunate enough to have a virtually endless list of great hikes within an hours drive from town. A popular sightseeing and hiking spot near Portland in the Columbia River Gorge is Multnomah Falls. Just a couple of miles past Multnomah Falls is the secluded, yet beautiful Oneonta Gorge.

While the elevation and distance are relatively easy, especially for the experienced hiker, the terrain is nothing short of an adventure. Climbing over logs and wading through sometimes chest deep water are all part of the adventure required before reaching the stunning falls, swimming hole and diving area. You will get wet and most of your hiking will be in the river, so bring the appropriate hiking gear.
