Finding Water in the Desert

Should you ever find yourself lost in the desert, finding water and shade are going to be crucial to your survival. Depending on the type of desert you are in, there are several methods for finding water. Although it is possible, running streams or pools of water are rather unlikely in the desert, so it is important to be able to recognize a few geological and environmental signals that will help you find a source of water.

These 3 videos have very comprehensive and effective ways of locating water in the desert, as well as general tips on how to filter the water once you find it. If you are going to be venturing out into the desert, be sure to have a survival kit, which at the very least should contain a water bottle, iodine purification tablets, a bandana, a plastic bag, paracord, and sunscreen.
